So something like this?

I'd like to keep it under $1k if I can.

Is there a cheaper/better value video card that's available? I'm coming from a 750 TI.

Also do I need a X570 motherboard or is B550 good enough.

Not sure where to put this, but I just ordered the fiio k5 pro which is a headphone dac/amp combo. Seems versatile for pc, console and home theatre. Here's a review from a gamer but it seems to have respect in the audio world as well:

That's a great dac/amp for the price. The only negative is that it doesn't cut output to the speakers when you have headphones plugged in, so you'll have to turn them down/off manually.

Odd design choice for sure! Think it will take a while for that to annoy me, as I'll just be using usb or digital for now.

Maybe I'm just used to working with Audio Interfaces rather than DACs, but this seems normal and logical to me.

I can see the benefit to being able to listen to multiple sources when producing music but if you’re just listening it’s usually speakers or headphones.

A B550 is going to be good enough for the majority of people. But you can see the differences for yourself in plain English here: https://techedged.com/b550-vs-x570/

As for the video card, I feel like the GTX 1660 is pretty much the right card for the money. A used GTX 1070 will command more money without much of a gain in performance over the standard card, and even then falls behind a GTX 1660 Ti in performance most of the time.

The 1660TI is a pretty dam impressive card, Use one for the downstairs computer and no complaints. Runs everything I throw at it.

16XX series may be end of life (no longer produced), 1650, 1650 super may be still in production, but that depends on if nvidia are releasing a 3050, in which case all bets are off. 1030 or 1050ti stock may still be out there.

3060 12gb and 3060 gb are expected to replace 1660 range. 3060 12gb may offer 2070 super performance.

3050ti is probably replacement for base model 1660.

Nvidia price creep in full effect this year. Availability is probably going to be awful initially, don't expect stock for 2 weeks, maybe pre-order at local brick and mortar shop.

Also remember the day before is AMD's CES 2021 keynote speech where 6700 is expected to be announced, with XT and non xt cards probably. Pricing TBA but most likely around 5600xt and lower (300-400$ CDN)

and for those high end folks, 3080ti may be coming out around 999 US$ to fight 6900xt and provide a lower priced sku to 3090.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/16351...d-motherboards

Asus is increasing pricing on components that they sell. Their competitors are probably not far behind.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1346491196567216128

Those of you who were able to buy early, yay! everyone else now gets to pay extra due to china/us trade war. Most of the major component distributors are based in the US, and basically no computer components company really does direct trade with Canada as we are too small.

For a 1K$ build right now I would go with Intel as they are more available.

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/T9d49N

1660 Super is a 5% slower 1660 Ti for 60$ cheaper. If it can be found.

1080p and 1440p gaming, not recommend for 4k60 unless doing the custom settings dance and turning stuff down. Some games will still need lower settings.

Also somebody did a ethereum mining flex and showed off an array of 78 RTX 3080's

Yeah I literally just managed to get a 3080 (from Best Buy) and a 5900x (from Canada Computers) yesterday before the price jumps.

If you guys are desperate, you can follow this stream for live botting updates on Canadian stock supplies (it worked for me!):

Newegg's already raised the price of the Strix 3090 to $2699 from $2499 2.5 weeks ago.

Lol so I got a 5900X before you but you're going to be able to use your 5900X before me.

Whats the best way to connect a few old desktop hard drives to see what is on them before I format and toss / donate them etc...

I believe they all have a SATA interface.

Some type of USB interface is preferred.

I mean, I have yet to plug any of the 3080, 5900x, or motherboard in to see if they work.

There's a non-zero chance any or all of them will have issues, and 0 of them were bought locally so
