Hey CP!

I wasn’t sure where to post but this thread seems appropriate. I used to post on here about my band Go For The Eyes and my one-off fundraiser boy band, The EmoTiona(L)s. In the last few years, GFTE has amicably parted ways (although a one-off reunion is certainly possible) and I’ve started my dream band. I always wanted to be in a band that channeled my fav bands like The Strokes, The Cars, Flock of Seagulls, The Cure, etc. Essentially 80’s New Wave and Power Pop. Ocasek’s passing hit me hard, as I have studied his “playbook” for years.

I am super lucky to be playing with some of my favourite dudes, who’ve played in Calgary bands (past and present) Bell Tower, Thomas Thomas, The Shagbots, Port Juvee and Jenny. This is my love letter to the 80’s. We are currently recording our first EP. here’s our first single, which I’ve been meaning to share on here for over a year. Hope you enjoy- this is betaboys:

Never thought I’d say this, but this 10 year old bump is actually awesome.
Doublefuzz was pretty rad.

Hahah, that’s a relief! I love sharing my music and have been meaning to share our single on here since we released it. I’ve usually lurked CP but I have really enjoyed posting more in the last month.

Yeah, Double Fuzz rules. I played with them during my GFTE days and with betaboys last year. They light it up every time. Great mix of heaviness and catchy, well-crafted songwriting. Fantastic group of humans, too.

Hey friends!

I’m excited to share that my band betaboys has released a new single as part of the Sled Island compilation that came out today. We were supposed to play Sled this year so they’re doing this compilation as part of their modified programming. You can find us at Track 13 on Volume 2. I appreciate your ongoing support. There are so many great local artists on this release! Here’s the link and more info about which charities the proceeds are going to:

https://sledisland.bandcamp.com/albu...de-stand-vol-2

Sled Island is thrilled to announce the release of two digital compilations: The Sled Island Lemonade Stand Vol. 1 & 2, comprising 51 previously unreleased songs from every genre written, recorded or completed by Calgary artists who were scheduled to play Sled Island 2020 in or just before quarantine.

The compilation is a "pay what you can," by donation release with 100% of proceeds going to charity. Donations will be split equally between:

Black Health Alliance: a community-led registered charity working to improve the health and well-being of Black communities in Canada. Building on their track record as an effective mobilizer and champion, they continue to grow our movement for change. Driven by groundbreaking research, strong partnerships, and people, this movement continues to build innovative solutions to improve Black health and well-being, and mobilize people and financial resources to create lasting change in the lives of Black children, families and communities.

The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF): a national Indigenous-led, charitable organization with the goal of educating and raising awareness about the history and many legacies of the Residential School System. Their mission is to educate towards creating just and equal relationships of reconciliation and healing for all Canadians, to expand awareness of and access to the rich legacy of the contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the world, and to make known the histories of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, including the histories of injustice.

I really like that single. I can hear some Killers influence in there, the vocals are more deep, raspy and soulful than Brandon Flowers and the song finds itself departed from any of it's comparative artists by the end, which is really cool as so much new music is either lost or a copy.

Inspiration (as every artist is shaped by inspiration) channelled to original is the name of the game and you guys nail that every time.

Wow, thank you so much. The last few months have been pretty brutal for me for many reasons so it’s nice to have something cool happen and release new music. Thanks for making my day!

No problem, I love local music (loved when the Evidence started blowing up a bit) and would love to see a band or artist break out of here to the national and possibly international scene again. You guys definitely have something special going on there. Always hard to put your finger on what it is, but you can sense an "it" factor there, you just have to keep pushing and hope for the break.

On a personal level I'd love to hear a driving bridge in that song that pushes the vocalist slightly out of his comfort zone and then bring it down to the feel of the chorus again. But that's coming from a guy who grew up on Dave Grohl, so take it with a grain of salt, lol.

Hahah, cool! I’m definitely going for a Strokes meets 80’s New Wave and Power Pop vibe. This band is my love letter to The Cars, Flock of Seagulls, Psychedelic Furs, etc. I appreciate all your feedback, friend!

Thanks, pals! “So Shy” is part of our upcoming 4 song EP. We still haven’t settled on a release date for it. We’re in wait-and-see mode. I don’t sing in this band. I play bass and write most of the music. At least the initial demos. I am blessed to play with some very talented buds and they have added so much to the songs. Again, thanks for all your kind responses.
