I am ok with the second flames trade they list:
To Calgary Flames = Radim Vrbata and Nick Merkley
To Arizona Coyotes = Morgan Klimchuk, Tyler Wotherspoon, Mason McDonald and a 2017 third-round pick

I think Vrbata would be a good target and would probably resign short term for cheap if it works out
I also would like to see if the Flames could get in on Abdelkader, Tatar or Nyquist if available. Abdelkader would help bring some speed and size we are looking for. Could work if Bouma is was in the deal or Wideman does get traded

He's actually a pretty useful player and exactly the type of player you would like to bring in for the playoffs.

From my POV, 20-25 point third line wingers are dime and dozen in the league.

I've been thinking for a while now that Abdelkader would be a great fit on the Flames. He has size and speed, is defensively responsible, and has proven he has great chemistry with Gaudreau. I don't see how this team's salary structure going forward can fit a true #1 RW, but a guy like Abdelkader is good enough to take a supporting role in a top line.
Of course, there's little reason to think the Wings have any interest in moving him. And if they did, they'd want a good young prospect like Andersson.

He would sign for cheap and have 0 acquisition cost. The only downside for any team looking at him is that he would need to clear waivers to sign a NHL deal as he played in Europe after the start of the regular season.
Given that he is with the Blues affiliate, seems like he might be a plan to help offset the loss of Shattenkirk
|
I thought they closed that waiver loophole in the last CBA, I could very well be wrong though.

Not a fan, and at $4.25 million for another 4 years? No thank you.

Someone on Twitter mentioned that Vrbata might be a bad addition for teams short on cap space due to decent playoff bonus' that he has in his contract.
How do the flames look with their rookie overages for next year? I think I saw they will likely have a 600k overage for next year? Would they want to add to that?

Abdelkader would just be another Brouwer. Pass.

My thoughts as well, maybe even a poor-man's Brouwer, if that is possible. Thanks for fixing the term. That is even worse than I thought.

are you implying it was a good deal? because it wasn't
too long, too much money, NMC, too much cross checking a linesman
Both were terrible signings, thus "glass houses"
