Edmonton really has a difficult time turning the other cheek and accepting that for all the money they are pouring into the downtown area it's still lipstick on a pig. I give them credit for putting forth the effort to change perception but it will take some time and a lot more than an arena to change the atmosphere and vibe. Honestly there are some things better than Calgary but the inferiority complex make them look worse than they are.

It seems like if someone says something bad about Edmonton they write an article about it.

Don't like the Google picture? Let's write about it.
Don't like Lonely Planet review? Let's write about it.

I'm sure there are other examples out there too. They need to settle down.

Instead of the ICE District, they should have named the area around the new arena the Inferiority Complex.

Nah, next headline will be "Edmonton rolls out the red carpet for Rick Steves."

And what's with a major metropolitan newspaper using the phrase "throwing shade" in a headline?

My grandfather still reads newspapers and I guarantee he has no idea what that means.

Which one? If you mean the Edmonton Journal then surely you jest!

Three tickets for public urination issued during Edmonton Oilers' playoff run, report says:

Quote:
New statistics show law enforcement officers handed out just three tickets and seven warnings during the playoffs for peeing in public.

Two of the tickets were issued by Edmonton Transit officers at the MacEwan LRT station beside the arena, while the third ticket was issued by the city’s community standards officers.

Police gave out five warnings, but no tickets.

The fine for public urination is $500.

The statistics will be presented to city council’s community and public services committee next Thursday.
Quote:
City officials said in the committee report that a variety of strategies were implemented to avoid any serious problems.

“Specifically, temporary toilet units were installed, safety and security measures were put into place to ensure washrooms were clean and safe for users, hours at a nearby city facility were extended, and temporary signage was used to direct citizens to washroom facilities,” the report says.

As well, Oilers Entertainment Group installed portable toilets outside to accommodate extra fans watching the games in Ford Hall.

The report said an “escalation plan” for public urination was devised but never implemented because the playoff run ended in the second round.

Ahh yes, the Edmonton urination escalation expectation plan that missed fruition due to elimination.

They ended up with elimination instead of elimination.

The thread is more of a rivalry type thread - when it involves trying to disparage a city and gain internet points off of someone's death, it reeks of a complete lack of tact. Making jokes about someone's death, particularly in this context, isn't funny or edgy, it is just being an ass.

Probably right before the season or the next time the Oilers do something catastrophically stupid....which knowing them should be soon.

I agree. The content in this thread is fun, but when it goes too far, it is worse than HFBoards. If this thread isn't about how the Edmonton Oilers are no good, it should be moved into "The Off Topic Forum" since the city of Edmonton does not equal a hockey topic.

The reason I click on this thread is because I am really hopeful I will get to read about the next stupid thing the Oilers have done. I miss that.

When the Young Stars Classic begins I hope this can be about the incredible lack of depth that the Oilers have. Puljujärvi will be a bust.
