Thanks.
Now I need to find a place to display this when built.

I just finished step 6 of my Falcon tonight (I'm taking my time and enjoying the build quite a bit) and it's taking on its iconic shape quite nicely. 13 hours of build time in. Sorry it's not a very good pic. I think that my camera function is going.
Spoiler, as some folks don't like to see Lego WIP's (also, HUGE pic):

Whether this particular set is worth purchasing, though, is hard to say. It looks like it would be a rather repetitive build (like the London Bridge), and I can't imagine that the Taj neatly fits into the little Bricksburg towns that many people create.

I don't want to seem like I am picking on you in particular, but this is a complaint, especially with Lego, that I've never understood. What is someone looking for when they want a non-repetitive build? Some asymmetrical...thing?
Maybe it's because I just like the really big sets (2000+ pcs) and realize that at that size, things are generally symmetrical and so to build them, I'll be building multiple identical things and putting them together.
I just have trouble thinking of what a 'non-repetitive' build would look like.
I guess I'm more curious over anything else. I don't mind a repetitive build if I like what the end product is. But due to the stuff I like to build (the large spaceship models, vehicles, etc) I deal with a lot of repetition, so it doesn't bother me.

Most of the earlier modular buildings are generally considered not to be a repetitive build, as are many locomotive builds.
I don't think that the issue is one of symmetry, but instead one of "I built X once, now I get to build the exact same thing 3 (or 4, or 5, or whatever) more times."

Picked up one of the Lego advent calendars from Costco the other day. It was fun last year and it's a different set this year.

I recently put together my first set in the Creator series, the Parisian Restaurant. I was incredibly impressed with how detailed the set was, with things like cool brick work, tiled floors, and the amazing kitchen which has everything including cream in the fridge. By far my favourite thing about the set was NO STICKERS!!! I hate stickers so much and it was very refreshing to see custom made pieces for the clock, painting, menu, and sign. My only criticism was that the build was only divided into 4 parts when it could have been over 10. This just meant I had to set a side a few hours per section instead of 30 minutes or so.
It was a lot of fun to build and looks great. I am looking forward to getting more buildings from this series to fill out my lego city.

The Lego modular buildings are a lot of fun. I’ve done a few including the Parisian Restaurant. I suggest the Palace Cinema next. The marquee is especially well-designed.

I grew up building Lego Technic, but this thread inspired me to have a look at what is out there these days. I am now obsessed with the Volvo wheel loader (42030) and the bucket wheel excavator. I can see this turning into a very long expensive rabbit hole similar to the Sous Vide phase of last Christmas (unrelated: what an awesome purchase..I love that thing).

Currently building the Parisian Restaurant shown above. It's a really fun build, and I can see myself becoming addicted to these modular buildings in the future.

Just picked up the Saturn V rocket from Mastermind Toys with 20% off coupon. Stoked to get started - even more excited my wife decided she likes LEGO too. Although maybe not so good for the family bank account....
There are some Lego exceptions, but coupon expires today from Ideas catalog - you may be able to get in a store quickly today or head to the online store. Spend more than $50 and use code SAVE20 online.

The Bucket Wheel Excavator 42055 sells at Costco.ca (and sometimes Amazon.ca) for $230 instead of the MSRP of $330.
I missed the Volvo Wheel Loader 42030 at retail, sadly. I haven't justified the aftermarket prices yet. If anyone wants to sell a mint used one, or trade for other retired sets, please let me know.

Lots of 25%+ off on some decent Lego sets that dont often go on sale. The best value would be the Fishing Store (25%), Palace Cinema (40%), Technic Arcos (40%), and the other Flagship Technic sets at 30% off.
