Default 9/11 Anniversary

My Grandma would have turned 90 today. I'll never forget her.

Was she a casualty or just a coincidence? Condolences either way.

My significant other was in downtown Manhattan, and was walking to work. She eventually noticed she was having to walk around a lot of stationary people. She looked up just in time to see the 2nd plane hit.

Hopefully we get to the point where we can take our 9/11 trips down memory lane every 25 years or something. Every year is a bit meh at this point.

You'll be amazed when you find out you don't need to participate at all.

Totally unrelated. She passed last fall.

I can imagine how your s.o. felt. I've watched every video I've come across because it's hard to comprehend the enormity of an attack like that in one of the largest cities in the world.

Nickelback released Silver Side Up 24 year ago today. This is a great album that has been certified 8x Platinum in Canada, 6x Platinum in the US, and 3x Platinum in the UK. Although every day is a great day to listen to Nickelback, today is even more so.

Jay-Z's The Blueprint was also released today. The two albums debuted at one and two on the Billboard charts.

Also in music released on September 11 2001 is the album Disciple by Slayer. Craziest part of that album (and the title track song) is the lyric:

Pessimist
Terrorist
Targeting the next mark.

Global chaos feeding on hysteria

It is really difficult to think about 9/11 without criticizing the USA 's use of the event to justify killing 200,000 Iraqi civilians.

My brother was in the air flying from Minneapolis to Boston when the planes hit the Twin Towers. He still talks about chaos when his flight was diverted to Detroit where there was a mad scramble to get a rental vehicle of any kind. Guys in 3 piece suits standing on the side of road in the rental lot hoping to thumb a ride as all the vehicles were rented out.

P.O.D. released their album " Satellite" on Sept 11, 2001. One of the first singles was Boom - "Boom, here comes the boom!"

I always thought it was 600,000 as a conservative #, invaded two countries just to kill the mastermind in Pakistan

Huh I learned something today. I remember the song very well but had no clue it also landed on September 11

Go back 28 years prior to that and the role the U.S. had in helping Augosto Pinochet stage a military coup on this date in 1973. The subsequent actions of his regime was rather brutal. Maybe not in terms of total numbers, but the way in which it was carried out.

The U.S. also supported Saddam Hussein's rise to power in Iraq. Basically, anyone who wasn't a communist was fine. The fact he also wasn't an Islamist was a bonus for them. Heck, they didn't even care all that much when he committed mass murder, but mess around with oil, and all bets are off.

They shouldn't even be associated with 9/11, but I guess the overarching war on terrorism that followed it is hard to separate.

I think it's wierd the US is freaking out about Haitians and yet seems to have no clue what the US did to Haiti supporting Papa Doc and the Tonton Macoute in the 60's that were both indescribably brutal and directly led to todays instability

I still remember seeing the jets circling and turning around to land at the airport from my Apartment in the NE.

I still remember telling my boss to stuff it before leaving the office when he went on a rant about us sitting in the board room watching the news instead of making sales calls.

I was like "Who the hell is going to pick up the phone to talk about servers and PC's today". Then told him I was going to go get drunk and left.

Hitting quota meant that you had a lot of power.

I remember the internet rumors and even scattered reports of missing jets heading to major cities.

I remember waking up and watching the news first thing in the morning and hearing about the first plane and thinking what a horrible accident. Then hearing on the radio driving into work of the second hit and thinking "That's terrorism, we're going to see another atomic bomb dropped in anger".

The whole next two days was just surreal. My Sister was in New York at a Medical Conference, and they called every doctor they could into hospitals to help with casualties, and she said it was strangely quiet.
