It makes sense that Canuck fans are saltier than Habs fans. Montreal got him for free, he performed well for them, and now they gained futures for him in a season where they aren't going anywhere and their rebuild lasts longer than his contract. That's a win.
On the other hand Vancouver gave a 2nd plus a couple AHL guys for 10 games of Toffoli and then failed to re-sign him. And he signs in Montreal for a bargain contract which Calgary now enjoys.

along with the fact that Markstrom and Tanev also walked for nothing and are key players for a rival. That's got to sting.

Don't like trading 1st but if the season ended today the Flames would draft 22nd overall, considering the other pieces are minimal (at best) this is incredible value. Toffoli is signed for two more seasons as too, if he maintains his play the Flames could still get value for him if this all doesn't work out.
Banger of a trade anyway you spin it.

What stings? People I liked are playing and seeing success.
This deal is good from a Canucks fan perspective if you can let go of the past. It helps set a price for any deal for JT Miller, which is now shaping up to be one of those trades that has the potential to really change the long term direction of the franchise depending on the return.

Marty St Louis saying Toffoli should have been wearing the " C " in Montreal because he was leading that way is huge in my mind.
We got Tanev who was also regarded highly by the nucks...bonus.
Coleman was also spoken of very highly and positively.
Glad to see we are bringing inspiring , leaders, good people to the Flames .... D. SUTTER knows his S and I couldn't be happier as a fan of this team right now.
Back as far as 1986 this Team has had amazing players turned into alumni I wouldn't change for anything.
It's awe inspiring really.
Look at our alumni.
Look at our former owners whove left behind such an incredible legacy in Calgary.
Bud McCaig
Harley Hotchkiss
Doc Seaman
We couldn't be doing better job as ambassadors as fans, alumni, players , owners , coaches, scouts .....this organization is kicking some serious ass.
Yep...I just pumped our tires and didn't need to but .....as a fan ....I loves me my Flames.

You're welcome to hop on the bandwagon, Blaster. These are pretty much the Calgary Flanucks - a joint effort of two organizations, thanks to Benning.
We all know the choking nature of the Oilers and Leafs, and can all acknowledge the clutch nature of Sutter.
You might as well invest your hopes where it is wisest. After all, as you say, you like seeing good people succeed.

Hahaha, you like the Calgary Flames taking all your Canucks players and having success?
Also, why would you be happy that your crappy team is going to trade away JT Miller, by FAR your best player who is also on a sweetheart contract? Makes zero sense to me.

It does sting.
When you're a fan of a team, and then a GM basically ruins the team year after year for 7.5 years, it is a drag.
I can't understand why Benning was chasing OEL - like adding a $7M+ past-his-prime defenseman with 6 more years on his contract was the answer? He had already drafted Hughes... and had signed Myers. And because he was obsessed with that OEL deal (to correct all his past UFA mistakes - Roussel, Beagle, Eriksson) now Vancouver is stuck with three D making $6M+
Of course they had to let Markstrom go, with Demko developing into a No 1 starter - but why not retain Tanev and Toffoli? And just wait one more year to get rid of all your bad mistakes. Sheesh - Toffoli had good chemistry with Pettersson...
Ah, nuts.

It seems the western Canadian teams hear one of them is looking at a player and somehow create a bidding war amoungst themselves
Flames with Hamonik
Oilers with Hyman
Van with OEL
Every time you hear one of these teams interested in a player all 3 seem to be immediately interested . And then the final price seems crazy - often for a player who wasn’t needed / top need
I think it is one of the reasons all 3 have had such poor performance in the last decade
They forget to point is to make your team Better , not stop other teams from acquiring players

With the Benning-signed Dickinson $2.65M and Poolman $2.5M mistakes, it seems the Canucks are down to trading one of Miller, Garland, or Boeser to create cap space to fix the defence and also bottom 6 forwards...
What a mess that idiot left.

Funny enough there were people trying to argue that Benning was as good as Treliving has been here during his time in Vancouver. These were Flames fans on this site when they were blinded by hate for Tree

Did you know that 2020 (JT Miller) and 2021 (OEL) was the first time in Canucks history that they did not have a 1st round selection for two consecutive drafts?
Do you know what kind of teams trade away 1st round picks in consecutive years? Contenders competing for the Cup.
Benning ruined my team. Over and over for years. So, yeah, it “stings”.

They’re following the Oilers development model.
Similar to the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
The rebuild of their rebuild is their rebuild.
Lego franchises. Nonstop rebuilding.
