i think the difference is that Lucic doesn't have to change his game so who he plays with has less effect but as a centre it impacts Monahan's game greatly.
anyway, i love Looch, Mony and everyone else on this team and can't wait to see what is in store for the playoffs!

Of course. I can see it now when I imagine his head inside of a helmet, but wow, what a difference in his street clothes.

I don't know why but my brain had no idea what Lewis should look like without his lid. Like if there was a Trevor Lewis action man, the helmet would form part of the moulded head and wouldn't be an accessory.

Didn't Monahan's skating coach reference that someone coming off the surgery he had basically has to completely re-learn a new skating stride and it'd likely take the entire season? I get he's been disappointing in terms of production, but he's never lacked for trying, not a single day Monahan hasn't given his all to this team (Bordering on him needing to be handled better by the medical staff as he's consistently put himself at risk of exacerbating existing injuries).
It makes me sad seeing people disparage him so much, I don't think he's magically going to start scoring at a 30 goal pace again because of a new linemate, but he's slowly progressing and has more than earned a little patience imo

Trevor Lewis can become a pitchman for Marlboro when his playing days are over.

Monahan makes good smart passes on a consistent basis. They aren't flashy long range passes, but they are accurate. Is he what he was? No. But his stats with almost every other player are much better than his current linemates. When he got Mangiapane and Lucic for a game or two it was night and day better. Frankly, Dube handles the puck way too much on that line currently. He doesn't know what to do with it.

Dude. Why do I constantly have to put up line icetime after your posts? It's like you just bury your head in the sand when I do. This is real EASY to look up, not sure why you constantly pretend Monahan hasn't had quality linemates all season. Hes played the same amount of time with Coleman and Mangiapaine (42:33) as his linemates as he has with Ritchie and Dube (44:48).
And Lucic did get points playing with Lewis and Richardson, again something easy to look up.
Lucic-Monahan-Dube 81:48 (2 Goals For, 6 Goals Against. -4)
Lucic-Monahan-Lewis 73:36 (1 GF, 3 GA. -2)
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis 68:41 (4 GF, 3 GA. +1)
Lucic-Ruczika-Lewis 56:27 (3 GF, 1 GA. +2)
Monahan was dragging Looch down?
Anyways its Toffoli time for Monahan now, no more excuses. Excited to see Monahan with a dynamic new friend, fresh start, lets hope they rock it up!

Dube was the drag.
Now do Monahan's production with Mangiapane/Lucic. That's what I'm talking about.

Two things we know:
1. Monahan, when not paired with an elite playmaker (few and far between in his career) has struggled to be solid offensive contributor.
2. Gaudreau has miraculously returned to form when paired with better linemates who can play a possession game.
For all the defenders of Monahan, this isn't talked about. Also - the best the second line has looked has been when they're not paired with Monahan.
If the team was better with Monahan alongside Mangiapane, he'd be playing with him. Fact is, he's playing down the lineup for a reason and it's not because the coach is picking on him. It's because he's regressed and is not the player he once was. We shall see if flanking a great player with Toffoli helps elevate his game. There's nothing controversial in calling out Monahan's game this season.
And (gasp) yes, criticism can happen when the team is playing well.
