Hmm, I found a Globe & Mail article dated Sept 29, 2015 that doesn't mention Edmonton among the cities Communauto served, and a CBC article dated Oct. 9, 2018 that mentions Communauto was in Edmonton. Must have been some time in the intervening three years.

Still, point is they've been there for at least a couple years. That's an awfully long time to have been in business there and only have a fleet of 10 cars...

Hmm, interesting...

You can reserve a car for up to 30 minutes, just as Car2Go allowed you to, but it appears there's a charge to do so using the mobile app: $1.50 b/w 8:00-17:00, $2.50 outside of those hours.. The fee appears to be waived if you reserve it with a computer instead of the mobile app.

It says "by phone" which typically means phoning someone, so it would make sense to have a fee for that, and more expensive outside of normal hours. I highly doubt it means by app.

Are able to post a map of Edmonton's core area for comparison?

You're probably right. I guess I never even considered they'd give you the option of calling an actual human being.

Both maps at the same-ish scale:

Edmonton's seems small...

Thanks for posting.

Edmonton's core are is ridiculously small. Barely north of DT to barely south of the university.

Looks like they will require a driver's abstract. Could be a significant hurdle and I don't remember Car2Go requiring it.

Yes they require it, they'll do it for you and charge the $20 to your credit card.

Communauto finally answered my e-mail.

We apologize for the delay in replying to your email. After consulting our colleagues in Administration, it appears that the credit check done by Communauto does impact one's credit rating. However, unless several credit checks are made withing a year, the impact to one's rating will not be significant. We have forwarded your suggestion of disclosing this information prior to requesting permission.

One of Commuauto's cars has been sitting a block from my house for the last 10+ days.... pretty slow start it would seem.

I want to try it out but their pricing structure is keeping me away. Especially the bond for some of the subscriptions. I'm really not interested in sinking $500 into a subscription mostly because I'm concerned that if the company shuts down getting that bond back might be impossible. Even if they exist you have to give them 3 months notice to get your bond refunded. I think they have screwed themselves with their convoluted pricing and subscription model.

Yeah, I got the e-mail from MNP for the Class Action Suit. I registered to get my pound of flesh, I used Car2Go a ton while they were in business, especially when I lived downtown.

I used Car2Go a few times when they were in town, but I did not receive an email about the Class Action Suit. Is that by invitation only, or can I just go to the site and fill out the form to start a claim?

Is it actually worth pursuing and adding my name to something that maybe might go somewhere but more than likely end up with my name and contact info on some spam list?

They're not going to add your name to a spam list, you're sending your contact info to MNP, not some random internet list.

You may not be eligible. Check your junk mail folder and whatever e-mail accounts you may have used with Car2Go, e-mail is from "MNP LTD <no.reply@mnp.ca>".

Quote:
Only those who have paid $10 or more in Driver Protection Fees between June 1, 2015 and February 29, 2020 are eligible to submit a claim, and will receive a claim form on or after December 1, 2021. The claims are not transferable or assignable and only those receiving the claim email may submit a claim.

I got the email and checked out the settlement agreement. The settlement is set to a maximum of $1,000,000. The average user might get a couple of bucks.
