What if governments say for a period of five years suspended all non-essential programs and devoted those funds directly at a cure for cancer?

What a warrior little Ben was. Really hard to put into words how sad these stories are and to also find the right words that can honor a young man as brave and strong as Ben was. I am just thinking about his family right now, and hope at some point they are able to look out at their community and see how loved Ben was and how many people he touched, but also know that so many are thinking about them and sending love their way.

OMG man, please don't bring this stuff into this thread, c'mon. These are just your pet Canadian government funding gripes from many past off topic discussions pushed into an emotional thread man. Not subtle at all.

As others have said, it actually makes me happy that he got to see such huge a battle of Alberta win in person. That series had been three decades in the making and so big for their city (as it would have been for ours had we won).

I know hockey isn't everything, but it was so huge for him, you have to imagine it meant a lot in his final months.

If it was only that easy throwing money at a cure. Is lack of money really a hindrance, I’m not sure.

He was a funny little guy Ben Stelter. Condolences to his family as I’m sure they’re going to miss him.

That was not my intent but I was see your point. Edited.

You really wonder how close we are to a total cure. Is it in sight?

I am glad for every second of joy that brave little fella got out of their series win against us. Rest in Peace Ben.

I hope his parents find some comfort in how he touched the lives of all that knew of him and his incredible fight against this cruel disease.

I lost my dad a couple days ago.

There are so many types of cancer, having a blanket cure is not likely, from what I've read. But treatments of specific cancers are making advancements all the time.

I didn’t see anything wrong with your comment and since it was already quoted you didn’t have to change it. That poster should concern themselves more with their garbage posting style that so many have complained about instead of trying to act like they’re a mod around here.

I don't have a lot of respect for that franchise. But the way that they worked to give Ben his dream before his all too soon passing was amazing.

No child should go before their parents, so I can't imagine the pain that his family is going through, but at least they saw that their little guy had an amazing experience, and that a nation rallied around him.

RIP Ben.

My god. Sorry for your loss, I lost my dad last year.

But you have three four year olds? I'm not religious but might pray for you when they hit 12 or so. Enjoy it even during the trying times.

This is why it's impossible for me to believe there's any kind of higher power with any control over life on Earth, because terminal illness in children is about the most evil and pointless thing I can imagine. Going to be hugging my kids extra tight today for sure

While I don't believe in a higher power or control over life on earth, the idea is that you go to a better place when you die, for those that do believe that.

Thanks. I appreciate that.

Ya, the teen years will be…something. But I look forward to, and enjoy, every day.

I believe we've met. In a more boardroom setting. I'll send you a PM.

Losing a dad sucks, and is a difficult thing to absorb.... but time takes us over, eventually.
