I wish him well, but he's going to be in tough to even get an AHL deal. The Wranglers are awfully crowded on D.

Hmmmm....75 points in 59 games when he was 19 years old. As a blueliner. And led the team in PIM's. Then fell off a cliff. Depth guy it seems but used to be something there.

I remember him being on a team Canada too. I dunno this is a weird one... His AHL numbers in 19-20 don't look terrible either... .5 ppg +9 on a mediocre Laval team. Then 9 games and straight into the ECHL season. Something strange went on with this fellow.

Different coach that season i think. Bouchard left and replaced by another guy with a name that is French if i recall.
EDIT: yep. He had Bouchard (and Alex Burrows!!) for first two years. Then Bouchard went to the Ducks and was replaced by Houle (and Buchberger) in the last year he was in Laval. That could explain it.

Interesting! I like this as a potential upside move then. I hope he is able to establish himself and find a home with the Wranglers.

Sounds like he has great tools-mobility and evasiveness, high end puck moving ability, and two-way acumen. Sounds like an injury last year really derailed him, but he’s still got upside. I hope he makes it, and pushes someone else to the ECHL.

Same age as Valimaki
There is practically no room on the Flames so not sure what he is trying out for , AHL contract?

Taking a while to get to 5000

Are there a lot of natural RHD on the Wranglers?

It's an audition.
Wouldn't surprise me if a number of teams are keeping an eye on the Flames' D at camp, knowing they have more good players than jobs. If Brook shows well, he might get a contract offer from another club.

One of the scouts had him highly touted at some point probably.
Knee injury has hampered Brook's development. Who knows, maybe competition lights a fire under Valimaki.

Brook had tremendous upside, but a knee injury took away a lot of his mobility.
This is a zero-risk gamble - if his knee is anywhere close to 100% and his mobility is back, he can be a fantastic prospect, and the Flames will have front-row seats to see if he is worth signing. If not, well, hopefully he can still be an effective AHL'er, and can continue having a career in hockey. Hopefully it works out.

Maybe this a depth signing in preparation of a trade or two
