So the trade was for futures. So they get 1 year of Max for 7 M AAV? Great trade for Carolina. No risk for them.

Canes will have some work to do now with their cap situation ... Necas and Bear are RFAs (Bear has arbitration rights) and they have less than 5m left.

You would pay about 8.2% in sales tax in Nevada and 5% in Alberta
So guess you would save about 6% in taxes. One of the few states (Florida being another one) where the tax burden is lower in the US than it is in Canada.
In California you would have a 52% effective tax rate for instance. Nobody moves from Canada to California to avoid taxes.

Vegas gave up Suzuki, Tatar and a 2nd roucd pick for Pacioretty and now give him away for nothing.
What a terrible franchise.

Burns (@67%) and Pacioretty for free pretty much. A couple years too late to be super amazing but still a solid day for Carolina.

But they have a $100 million payroll for the 2022 playoffs! They're so smart!

You also need to consider property taxes.
But in the US generally speaking you pay state income taxes based on where you earn the money. And far more than two states with lower tax burden than Alberta. There are seven states with no income tax for example.

Seems there is always a team ready to bail Vegas out of their cap issues. At least this time they lose a productive player I guess.

That would be an absolute perfect scenario for the Flames if Vegas does take Marstrom/ However, Markstrom is the sweat and blood that Tre went through to get. So, it's not gonna happen. Just hope Markstrom has another bad year so the Flames can tank for the sweepstakes draft.

Vegas is so overrated anyways. they will be a middling team in the next few years.

3 of those have no team though. In some of those states your tax burden really varies county to county because of property tax.

they also gave up a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd to get Tatar in the first place. Incredible how they just continue to burn assets.

There are 4 NHL teams that play in states with no income tax. So those 4 teams definitely have an advantage as they would be about 9% lower than Alberta on income tax (they all have higher sales taxes than Alberta). Arizona would be lower, Colorado would be lower, North Carolina slightly lower, Ohio slightly lower, Penn and Tennessee slightly lower.
New York would be a higher tax burden (3 teams). Californian would be a higher tax burden (3 teams). Minnesota would be higher. New Jersey would be higher, Illinois would be about the same. Michigan would be about the same.
The difference between Canada and the states is in the margins. With the exception of the 4 cities with no state income tax, nobody is saving more than 2-3% and in some states they are paying as much as 4-7% more in taxes.

With Carolina's cap situation I really hope the Flames are looking at ways to grab Necas.
Would be a great pick up for the team.

I feel we're more sulking and just signing random depth peices nobody cares about anyway. The Gaudreau-less plan hasn't been determined, so we won't sign anyone or trade anyone of significance for a few weeks at least until it is.
Edit - forgot to note I agree would love to grab Necas

I figured they'd move him at the deadline, but if they were contending that would be a bad look. This at least allows them to justify it with another signing
