Default Holy crap it's rerates!

OK folks here you go. These are the re-rates.
We are using the same package that we have for several years.

I will offer the usual comments and ask that you keep them in mind as you review:

- Do not concern yourself with how much a player has increased or decreased in ratings. This is misleading. More look at if they've moved up or down in terms of how they are ranked against their peers.

- No ratings package is perfect. We have not tweaked these nor will we. That is a slippery slope that introduces subjectivity into something. Instead we will all live with the mostly good, a little bit of bad, with a 3rd party package

- Keep in mind the OVR is just a formulaic total of each attribute. OVR by itself doesn't define how good a player is in the sim, the individual attributes are. Moreover, certain attributes can be reasons why some guys are rated higher. As an example, the ST rating is based on the player's size, so bigger players get a boost from that. There are examples of goalies and dmen who have high OVR, but driven a lot by a high ST rating.

- Players who didn't play AHL/NHL last season are likely not going to be included, and won't have playable ratings for next season. Per my post the other day it seems like the cut off is 10 games for this package.

You are welcome to discuss the ratings, but remember - we aren't adjusting these.

Up next will be RFA and UFA grids. Timing TBD as I have a work trip coming up and then the draft soon follows. I will try to complete before the draft, but don't expect it for at least a week or two.

Trading can resume.

Is there a cutoff where a player or goalie has to be brought up to the main club, or is that something that is figured out once we get the grids?

Goalies remain the annual head-scratcher. Players seem pretty decent although im sure their are a few standouts i'm not seeing.

Someone has to say it. This rating package sucks.

With that out of the way, let me actually take a look at the ratings

Package seems pretty normal to me at first glance

Gonna second Jiri and emphasize to look at individual ratings as opposed to overall rating. Some random big defensive dmen always have high ratings for example, but that’s because they got a lot of attributes that bring the rating up that arent necessarily as important as some other attributes

I'm happy with how my guys got rated. Miller, Stamkos and Kucherov all looking good and Pietrangelo, Slavin and Nurse all looking good as well.

I have the top 2 rated defensemen in DF rating as well! Hopefully my d can make up for my goalies.

Darnell Nurse being the 7th highest rated dman and Mike Smith being the 6th best goalie makes it blatantly obvious that those who created this package are no good.

Only a quick look but it looks the same as most years. Some higher than expected, some lower than expected.

Koskinen at 86 OVR. Ugh shouldn’t have traded that useless player.

I thought Grubauer was going to have a huge drop so I was looking to move him for peanuts. He only dropped 2 OV so glad I kept him.

I thought Stastny was going to move up but he stayed the same

Traded for Jon Merrill. Gave up a decent bit. Re-rated as a 66 OVR

What happens if you have a guy that is rated Zero OV in the Sim ?

I have Ilya Kovalchuk and he is rated ZERO. He also on a one way deal.

If you want to play him in the sim he would get 50s across the board
