He all but confirmed the rumor at the same time, which probably means a trade will happen in the next week or two. Which GM is going to gamble here? I'm thinking a large market team with a desperate ownership group and idiot management. I'm thinking Philly or NY just based on those criteria and nothing else.

Kinda strange to even address it though. It was a Shams report, which, while likely true, is still essentially a rumour. KD didn't confirm it or even mention it. Maybe should say nothing?

Could be lost in the cultural need to address it, as it does affect their bargaining position, but it could also be to send a message widely that the players can't be calling the shots. That team was such a disaster from the start. I think most thought they'd implode and fight themselves. It was bound to happen. This sends a message that anyone coming to the team can't have an unnecessarily large voice. It's a good move. It's likely Durant's team leaked the situation, so it's a subtle f-u to him.

Building spin and narrative is always a precursor to the move being made. I feel like it is 1st chapter in the PR training manual stuff.

Translation: Turns out we couldn't get an entire starting roster plus two years of draft picks from a team.

Yup. I love it. I'm a little shocked no GM was dumb enough to do something catastrophic. Despite the statement, his time is all but done there. He'll be dealt by the deadline. You can't walk back things that were said in unforgiving markets. The GM will have to take a slight haircut obviously but he's a goner. Durant doesn't have the personality to forgive and forget.

He’ll be dealt in the offseason when teams are open to deal another 1st down the road and have more cap flexibility
I’m sure they told him if he wants a trade after this season they will grant it

Chet Holmgren out for the year is a pretty ominous sign for his career prospects. Or maybe it's a freak injury. Not good either way.

Watanabe signs with Brooklyn. Seemed like a good guy who played hard in limited minutes. Limited skill but had a slight upside outside the top 6. Sure to be a fan favourite in Brooklyn if he continues playing smart.

Old news now but found it funny that THT ended up being traded from the Lakers for Pat Bev after they declined to include him in the potential Lowry trade last offseason. Looks good on em.

Feels like a pretty big overpay from the Cavs. Mitchell is an elite one way player, his atrocious defense is going to be a problem for them. On the other hand, LOL Knicks yet again.

Garland-Mitchell-Okoro-Mobley-Allen is a nice young starting 5

Yeah, I can see both sides of that trade. On the one hand, Mitchell is an excellent player and legitimate allstar, and it's hard to acquire guys like that who are under contract long term.
On the other hand, they've basically given up all their trade assets through 2028. If they need to make additional moves, it gets tough when you're so short on tradeable draft picks. I'd also worry that Mitchell is essentially the elite-talent version of Sexton, who was a horrible fit on that roster to the point of being addition by subtraction. If I'm playing against Cleveland, I don't mind the ball being in Garland's hands less, assuming Mitchell sticks to his current ball-stopping tendencies.
