A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds that vaccination provides better protection against hospitalization with COVID-19 than a previous infection with the virus.
The analysis found people hospitalized with coronavirus-like symptoms were more than five times more likely to test positive for COVID-19 if they had had recent prior infection than if they were recently vaccinated.

No more excuses. Facts are facts. We should not treat previous infections as equivalent to vaccines. Good to have this study now.

My husband got off work early on Friday so I suggested he get his second dose and he did. None of the issues he had with the first dose, was just a little tired but none of the complaining he did last time. He asked the pharmacist not to "lawn dart" him like the last guy and she knew exactly who he went to.

Alberta is now over 80% fully vaccinated among the eligible population. There are fewer than 500,000 unvaccinated eligible Albertans, and about 250,000 with only one shot.

Are all eligible for a booster dose of Moderna or Pfizer as long as you are 6 months post second dose.
If you have two doses of AZ or JJ and need travel you can get in 4 weeks after 2nd dose.
|
not quite true. Healthcare workers have to be 6 months since 2nd dose, and have to have been less than 8 weeks between first and second doses- many of us are foiled again

What about folks who had AZ for the first and Pfizer for the second? It isn't clear.

not sure if I misinterpreted your post above- but assumed you were (like me) in the just >8weeks between doses-
so if I have that wrong, I apologize off the hop- but otherwise- has there been a change in rules, or did you just decide (I'm not criticizing) to go for it?
I mean I'm glad that my slightly over 8 weeks between doses means better protection, but its not protection forever- so I hope they ultimately clarify for the plans for HCW vaccinated 8.5 weeks apart as opposed to 7.5 (for example)

I am at one day under 8 weeks between my two doses. Lucked out I guess.

I got my 2nd shot of AZ a few weeks ago and virtually no side effects. A slight achy feeling for the day and that was about it. 150 days between doses ( 21.5 weeks)
I am glad to have had this completed and I am hopeful for a strong end of the year and a good start to 2022 for us all with whatever we have all planned.
Stay safe !

It looks like Manitoba is the first province to open up 3rd doses to anyone 18+ who had their second shot at least 6 months ago.
I suspect the rest of Canada will be following suit shortly.

There is zero reason for Alberta to delay this any longer. We have over a million doses sitting around waiting for administration right now. Supply is not an issue.

What is the delivery capacity like though? Has the health care system recovered enough that it can dedicate a large number of staff to operate vaccination clinics? Is the capacity available to accommodate both flu shot and Covid dose 3 demand right now?

Plus incoming 5-11 vaccinations (likely starting this month).
Open it up and let people book out a month.

It's all being done through pharmacies now (and a select few AHS locations like Richmond Rd Diagnostic), there is no need to open mass vaccination clinics like before. And since the guidance is now that you can get your COVID-19 and flu shot at the same time, appointment capacity is way less of an issue than it was when we were looking at first and second doses in the spring/summer. Booking your flu shot? Get your COVID dose #3 at the same time.
This doesn't need to be hard. Has it been six months since your second dose? Then you're eligible. Done.

I don't think it really matters for the vast majority of people anyway right now. If it's been more than 6 months since your second shot, you likely already meet the requirements for a third shot.
Second shots didn't really open up for the general public until mid-June, so even if they made everyone eligible today, most won't be able to get it until mid-December or later.
