Stephen Hawking was another that was diagnosed and lived for a long time after. Unfortunately that isn't the case for most. 1-2 years is typical.

Former Saints NFL Defensive Back, Steve Gleason is living with it now. If you haven't watched the documentary on him (Gleason), you should. It is enlightening and powerful. Bring your tissues, as it's emotional too.

I don't have any experience personally or even 2nd hand with ALS, and I pray I never have to. I feel for everybody involved who know anybody who has suffered or suffers from this.

Just caught up on the all the Chris Snow news. What an incredible family, and I hope the best for them.

Chris is such an impressive man and his interview on After Hours shows just how articulate and well-spoken he is. The Flames are sure fortunate to have him as an AGM.

Agreed 100%!

that segment also reminded me how much I have come to enjoy the after hours show. They aren’t always as compelling but there are some great stories told there and its a real credit to Scott oake that people are willing to share deeply personal aspects of their life with him on a national broadcast.

My Aunt passed away with ALS and to watch her deteriorate on a week to week basis and then see Chris Snow update videos makes me so unbelievably happy.

So this trial of the gene therapy treatment not only stopped the progression it's reversing for Chris and in a very short time, I wonder how the other trial patients are doing.

https://www.nhl.com/news/gene-therap...ls/c-316171086

from a couple weeks ago

For the first six months of the trial, two-thirds of the study participants are given the actual drug. One-third are given a placebo.

They had six months in which he could have been receiving either the drug or the placebo, until last month, when they were finally assured he would be getting the medication from this point on.

Likewise. My aunt passed last year from ALS and I usually got updates when I spoke to my parents on the phone (they're all in Winnipeg), and it was just heartbreaking to hear how bad it got and how quickly it went.

These updates make me happy that hopefully fewer people will have to go through that in the future, that real progress is being made.

Agreed. Grandma for me. It is the worst, and why I am an adamant supporter of Betty's Run every year. Talking to Chris about his recovery is amazing and so gratifying.
