McLotteryball - 3
Flames - 0

Take that guy away and the oilers are a very average team. Talbots was solid but the Flames didn't do much to challenge him either. The compete level seriously needs to come up, and fast. Gaudreau did nothing all night, which is concerning. It feels like a lot of the creativity is gone from his game. And Brouwer.....ugh.

Well that sucked.

Slow. Timid. Unable to complete a pass all night.

At least Smith looked good.

Smith bucked the odds and came up with an excellent performance and gave us a chance to win it in the third.

McDavid and his line dominated our top line and that was the difference.

Pathetic showing

Oilers have 4 forward lines 3 defensive pairings and a goalie who are miles ahead of us

I'd rather watch all the Rambo sequels then ever watch another Flames season opener.

In good news, Phillips had 3 points +3 and Dubé had a goal as the Royals beat the Rockets 8-3

Otherwise, back to doomsday coverage

The Glass signing was terrible and Glass was awful tonight which isn't a surprise but he beat up Kassian!

Flames played scared most of the game. And, as much as I hate to say it, the Oilers outworked them in every aspect of the game. They played well. (Ick...do I ever hate saying that....)

Flames better smarten up and the coaching better sharpen up, because they're not going to win many games playing that way - even against lesser teams.

And holy crap, is McDoofus fast. 40.9 km/hr and he still gets a rising shot off? Wow. Just sucks that he ends up in that piece of crap city.

This one is on the players, nice effort, way to compete and even try to match the Oilers work ethic.

Thank god for Smith or this is 8-0.

They'd better come out a lot harder on Saturday against a team that's going to be embarrassed and pissed off.

Thank god I didn't have a chance to watch the 1st period.

I'm not sure why I got my hopes for opening games. What a disappointment. You knew the Oilers were going to have scoring chances and McDavid would be on the score sheet but the Flames generating zero offence was pathetic. Despite the bad first two periods, the third was the worst of all. How do you get out shot 16-5 when you are down by a goal and should be pressing?!?

At least Smith looked great unlike everyone else who completely wasted an excellent goaltending performance.

As bad as letting McD scoring a hat trick, he didn't even break a sweat doing it. What happened to hockey being a contact sport? Why are no one in the Flames jersey hitting McD?

Not sure why I should get worked up about a game the players certainly didn’t care about. Maybe they’ll put in some effort next time out.

Bring Bennett to the top line. Let him play wing.

Saturday's opponent is coached by Paul Maurice, so it's pretty much impossible.

Flames with some pushback in the second period (after being dominated for the majority of the game), but never looked dangerous out there. First goal looked like a lucky bounce; second goal was all McDavid. Smith looked solid. Looking forward to seeing Jagr at the home opener.

P.S. Why in the world is Brouwer out there on the 6-5 with the net empty? He's not good enough to play on the third line but we'll put him out there when we need a goal? C'mon Gulutzan...

Wasn't Brower -3??? Stajan looked like a pylon. My 80 year old arthritic mother can shoot the puck harder then Hamilton.

Totally unprepared due to another botched preseason. You have to get AT full speed on game 1, by just ramping up.
