It's going to take a long time for people to stop calling it "the ACC." That rolls off the tongue super easy

8-10 dates a year, maybe 15-20 with concerts
versus 82 guaranteed regular season home games on national tv, Leafs are young and upcoming team so playoff games as well, Raps who knows but at least the next 3-4 years are very likely playoff teams
Plus probably 50 concerts a year? 53 so far this year
much higher exposure

^^ NRG Stadium is a lot more busy than 15-20 events a year from a quick google.
But it is part of a bug park:
Quote:
NRG Stadium is part of a collection of venues (including the Astrodome), which are collectively called NRG Park. The entire complex is named for NRG Energy under a 32-year, US$300 million naming rights deal in 2000.

(It is no longer Reliant Stadium)

That's also a fairly old list as noted by Pengrowth Saddledome being listed. I think the market has shifted somewhat.
Chase pays MSG $30 million a year (US) for naming rights of various vacilities and they pay Golden State $20 million a year for the new SF arena.

They should have called it the ScotiaBank Centre. SBC is close enough to still easily roll off the tongue. The SBA? Yeah not so much.

Edit: It looks like they can change the image on the top...okay that's kind of cool.

Yeah, that list is at least 15 years old.
It still has the Coyotes listed as a tenant at American West Arena. The Coyotes moved in 2003 and the Arena changed its name in 2006 and again in 2015.

Why would they spend so much money on the naming rights and give people an easy 3 letter abbreviation to avoid saying Scotiabank.

Couldn't even pay off the Wideman contract with that. Seems to be a common theme for this team to lock itself long term into bad deals much like the RSN broadcasting rights. I will cut them some slack on the Dome naming rights because at the time there probably wasn't a lot of companies knocking down the door to pay $$ to put their name on the Dome.

It always surprises me that corporations feel they get value out of these deals, although, I suppose their is some value to them making a contribution to a local facility
It would be interesting to know what the total amount Scotia bank spends on "advertising"

I think that every time I see ads on the boards at the Dome. Sure, pizza companies, or beer. But who buys a car or hires an accountant or buys an RRSP based on an arena ad?

It's called brand recognition. Most advertising is merely making you familiar with the name of the brand. If you recognize the name then it has worked. When shopping you are more likely to buy brands you are familiar with.

TSN or Sportsnet had a segment on this new deal. Scotia is going to push SCENE membership hard in the coming years. 8 million people are signed up with the majority being millennials. 40 million $ is still a whack load of cash to pay per year.
