Tanner Glass is one of the worst possession players in the NHL, he can't defend, and he can't score. Look, I'm all for PTOs, but why not give one to a guy like P.A. Parenteau instead?

Nothing to worry about. Just a guy to drop the gloves in the preseason

Because this is most likely to have a even number of vets for the split squad games/preseason.

Doesn't really matter to me, just another body for camp.
Although I have some doubts in our managements eyes to identify talent after one horrendous pre-season game from Nick Grossmann where it was blatantly obvious that he was not an NHL caliber player, Jerrard was on record post game saying something along the lines of: "we thought he looked real good tonight"

Man, I don't like this at all. Glass is legitimately in the conversation for worst player in the NHL, and fans of his last two teams can attest to as much.

What is Jerrard supposed to say, "Nik was hot garbage and he blew his assignments". No coach is going to rip his players on record. Especially in a Canadian market.

You weren't kidding. There needs to be a PTO sticky reminding people of the NHL vet minimum in preseason -- just keep it up there from August until the day after the first split-squad game in Edmonton.
Grossman was garbage but managed to get a contract because Treliving wanted to max out Smid's LTIR situation and Gulutzan agreed/was foolish enough to put him into the lineup. Guarantee that won't happen again.
And by the way, Korpikoski managed 20 points (8+12) in 60 games when he signed in Dallas last year. Not suggesting Glass is anything more than a facepuncher to travel to Edmonton to fill out the roster but there is room for PTO's, especially nowadays with the way the cap is working.

Well he truly believed it regardless of what he was supposed to say because just over a week later there he was flinging the puck up the ice onto Draisaitl's tape within the first minute of opening night.

99% chance he gets let go but still that 1% SCARES me! As long as he gets thrown out in preseason games against other facepunchers then fine, anything more, not a fan.

Agreed, and don't forget that alot of pre-season games are split squad, and there is a requirement for teams to have a certain number of veterans play in each (to help with preseason ticket sales). At the same time, you want your core vets playing with each other to build chemistry and find a rythm. So in a way, PTOs like this are neccisarry in order to comply with league rules. I'm saying <0.001% chance he makes it past final camp cuts.

This is the problem. We have a track record. I dont know who made what call but if Glass is just a body in a jersey for the pre-season nobody cares, but we as fans have a legitimate reason for concern due to our management's track record.
Its going to take some time for that to be repaired.
I'm sure every team has washouts on PTOs, but we've actually signed some.
And then played them!

No big deal - they always roll a couple of PTO guys through training camp that never stick.

Saying the Flames have a "track record" because they signed one of those guys is pretty flimsy. Even Grossman only lasted a week before his contract was terminated, not that I think he should have been signed.
Calgary has had Chris Higgens, Korprikoski, Ryan Wilson, Douglas Murray and Aaron Johnson all on PTO's in the last two camps, none of them signed.

Technically we did sign Kris Versteeg from a PTO with the Oilers, so theres also that.
But Grossman was...well...grossly unacceptable. That was a nightmare.

We almost signed Korpikoski before Dallas saved us.

The only reason is should scare you is because Glass would have EARNED his spot in the lineup over a lot of young players we are expecting to be NHL quality. If there are so few young guys capable of outplaying Tanner Glass for a job, our farm system is in serious trouble.
If Glass sticks as a 14th forward, it also means next to nothing as he'll probably never get in the lineup. But, if there's a last minute injury he has enough veteran experience to not hurt his club.
I honestly doubt it'll come to this.
