Meh. Minimum number of vets required in pre-season games. Showcase for the guy that probably has Gulutzan ties. At best, vet for the AHL. No big deal.
Yes, Grossman was a mistake, but at least they cut ties with him, rather than pretending they could make a season out of it.

AFAIK Gulutzan never coached Glass.

My bad. Assumed VCR.
Still-my overall point about the Flames giving these types of guys a showcase holds. I don't mind that. And I trust management in their decision making, so, I don't stress about PTOs.

Already signed a PTO with the Kings. If anything, we should have offered a PTO to Scottie Upshall. Even then, we don't need him really.

Can we have a meltdown because it's Tanner Glass on a PTO? I mean really it's Tanner Glass... Tanner Glass having anything higher then a 0% chance of playing for the Calgary Flames is unacceptable.

My mistake. I thought for sure he coached him in Vancouver. Looked it up, and nope.

Seeing the how Prust has played and behaved since leaving the Flames for a second time I'll pass. Plus he's got Canuck all over him now so that's double no.

Hey, sometimes they turn out. Look at Versteeg. He didn't even have to physically attend the Flames camp and he made it!

Thing is, Korpikoski and Higgins as washed up and barely still NHL calibre as they are (or no longer NHL calibre at all in Higgins' case) are still better hockey players than Glass is, facepuching notwithstanding.
Glass flat out sucks ass at playing actual hockey.

Meh. I hope the PTOs don't distract from the team having everyone clicking for opening night. No slow start this season.

@Ziggy_14
This is how Tanner Glass produced last season. In the league BELOW the NHL.
Don't really understand this.

He's 33. Not super old.
He's played over 500 NHL games. He's clearly not that terrible.
He played just 11 NHL games last year for the Rangers because they were stacked with some of the best depth at forward in the NHL last year. Before that he played 57 and 66 games for them.
He's not a great player, and he's probably not in the plans for the team this year, but is likely a placeholder veteran for pre-season games. Perhaps he can be a baseline level of competition for guys like Hathaway and Hamilton to prove that they're better than him and deserve to be on the NHL roster. There's no obligation from the team to keep him after the pre-season, and 99% of these guys don't sign with the team that had them on the PTO.
The same things are said every year about the reasons for bringing in guys on PTOs, and yet every year people freak out about them. It's boring.

Only thing he's not terrible at on an NHL level is facepunching. That's it.

We already have gazdic. Gazdic is the same man as glass. We should've given his tryout spot to a guy who plays with the puck on his stick instead of a guy who goes out to punch people.
To make the most of this, Tanner, please go out and give Mcdavid the worst time of his life if you play him in the preseason.

Lifetime In Suspension

No PTOs ever, I'm shocked that the Flames would be rumoured to do this. Don't they know a full youth movement in all situations is the only way to run a team? Players should be euthanized or traded on the eve of their 30th birthday, a Logan's Run rule for the NHL as it were. I bet his corsi and PDO are super terrible as well and for all his alleged face punching acumen I'd bet his GRIT index is crap too. This is completely unbelievable.

You cant be too hard on them.
We invited Grossman. Somehow he made the team. Disaster ensued.
So evidence exists that sometimes inviting washouts is a bad thing.
The big problem is that it can also be a good thing, for a variety of reasons and maybe this is one of them. Hell, Edmonton invited Versteeg on a PTO and that worked out very well for Calgary.
But being cautious or pessimistic both about the player and management's opinions about said player seems fairly reasonable at this point.
Nik Grossman. We will never forget.
In fairness though he almost single-handedly got the Oilers into the playoffs so maybe he was just as good as McDavid.

I'd probably be less concerned if the Flames didn't sign old man Grossmann to a PTO last year after showing nothing in training camp as he gifted the Oilers their easiest goal of the season.
