Default NHL Network Top 10 D-men under 25

https://www.nhl.com/video/nhl-tonigh...208/c-52504003

1. Werensky
2. Fowler
3. Slavin
4. Parayko
5. Jones
6. Lindholm
7. Ekblad
8. Hamilton
9. Ristolainen
10. Trouba

initial impression, Slavin and Parayko too high; Ekblad, Hamilton and Ristolainen too low. Trouba doesn't belong on the list, not ahead of Hanifin, Provorov, Klingberg, and maybe Skjei, Dumba, Gostisbehere and Reilly

Jones is the only one that I'd trade Dougie straight up for

Ekblad and Ristolainin should for sure be higher.
Suprised that Gostisbehere didn't make it.
And Werenski is a great defender but is he really the best defenseman under 25??

Ghost had a terrible sophomore year defensively; he was just a mess out there
Jones and Ekblad are amazing, I like their games the best
Fowler is too high, Trouba isn't very good

I wouldn't say Werenski is the best d man under 25 today. He will be tho.

Columbus has an embarrassment of riches on the back end with D and Golatending depth.

That is some serious overrating of Slavin.

I saw this last night and said to myself pretty much the same things you guys are saying. The list was created by Ken Daneyko, and I'm not saying he doesn't know what he's talking about, but some of these guys are definitely rated too high.

I also feel bad for Ekblad. Poor kid has a bad year under a terrible coach and system, and all of a sudden he's behind the likes of Parayko and Slavin....seriously? The kid justified his 1st overall selection in his first 2 years in the league, but recency bias puts Colton friggin' Parayko ahead of him, not to mention ahead of Hamilton.

Something tells me this list will look vastly different after this year.

The Flame is underrated as always.

A lot of good d-men there, but I'm pretty sure most above Dougie didn't put up 50 last season.

Dougie was 9th among all D in scoring, number 1 among the <25

I wanted to put him higher, but thought that might be my Flames bias

So let me get this right. Trouba plays 25 minutes a game. He had 33 points in 60 games. 29 non-pp pts a game.

Hamilton plays 20 minutes a game and is by standards used to measure d-men on other teams is a pp specialist.

Trouba .55 ppg .48 Non-pp ppg
Hamilton .62 ppg .44 non-pp ppg

And Trouba does not belong on this list?

Trouba would be on the ice in the last 2 minutes of a game that the Jets were winning by a goal. Engelland would be taking Hamilton's spot in the same situation and now with Hamonic and Stone chances are that Hamilton gets sat the last 5 minutes in a game the Flames are nursing a 1 goal lead.

ricardo thinks the coach has more confidence in Dennis Wideman, who was routinely a healthy scratch in the stretch drive, then Hamilton.

Maybe hyper focusing on one stat, stripping it of all context, and using that as a basis of your analysis isn't such a great idea.

and if Hamilton had 35-40 pts instead of 50 pts he would not be on any lists. So basically he is benefiting by the focus on points scored taken out of context. There were no petitions or outcry why he was not in the top 7 d-men on the under 24 US/Canada team in last year when he was coming off a 43 pt season.

Spin it whichever way you want but when Wideman was playing the coachs had more confidence in him than Hamilton.

Sorry... this is so poorly worded I'm not sure exactly what's happening here. Are you suggesting Dougie Hamilton is a PP specialist?
The same Dougie Hamilton that is tied for 5th in EV points for defencemen?
The same Dougie Hamilton that is 3rd, behind Gio and Brodie for PP/ice per game?

Hamilton deserves a huge role increase on the powerplay, hopefully this season. He should lead the blueline in PP time.
