Past that you, are getting into 1440p/1600p territory, and bonus stuff like G-Sync and designer-quality color panels.
i do next to no gaming on it, so i just want a nice looking display for general computer use. the only gaming i do is stuff like cities skylines ... nothing too intense that requires amazing refresh.

what i was getting at before is with my 27 " monitor i have no it has a native 21920 1080 resolution.. and i think the pixels per inch isnt that great cuz the picture could be sharper.

Yeah you can get a 1440p/1600p 27" monitor that isn't attuned for gaming, but they aren't cheap (pretty much all high rez panels are still pricey).

These suckers are on sale for $450 at memex. Note that gaming at 1440p (3,686,400 pixels) is a lot more taxing on your card (even for Cities) than at 1080p (2,073,600 pixels) since you are effectively requiring almost double the visual output from your card:

Yes, but a lot of gaming people are driving three monitors or driving three 4K monitors, etc. I had Eyefinity but gave it up.

Two 1080p screens in front of my eyes with that kind of pixel density should require less hardware.

I would be surprised if the VR headsets worth buying are not 1440p per eye minimum. I've read that the screen-door effect is still there with 1080p.

Sooooo I just ordered an XB270HU from CanadaComputers.com ($50 off sale for some reason - $900). They have 2 left (everyone else is on Backorder)

...

I hope I don't get buyers remorse.

Alright so after a couple days using this thing I really only have this to say:

Holy freakin' crap where have you been all my life.

So jealous. Will be picking one up once I can convince the wife.

Yeah my wife didn't want anything to do with that sticker price (esp since it's for my PC, not hers). I'm paying out of pocket, but that's okay. I usually save a few grand for PC related expenditures every year, so this just counts for my Q2 spending

More technical notes:

Color is very good, a bit better than the Dell U2412Ms I use at work. Miles ahead of the TN panel I have now relegated to a second monitor.

Screen is crisp and 120hz/144hz is blowing me away, even just for day-to-day Windows use.

GSync is a revelation, especially for a guy who absolutely must use VSYNC at all times.

FPS gaming is unreal. Sniping has never been easier in CS:GO, TF2, and BF4.

2560x1440 is really the best balanced resolution at the moment. True 4k is too much of a push on videocards unless you are SLIing 980/Titans and requires a screen larger than 30" to really take advantage of when speaking in monitor/2 foot viewing terms.

If I had one gripe (outside of the price obvs) is that it came with 1 (out of 3.7 million) stuck pixel (that I had to hunt for to even find). I had to run a pixel unsticker for ~1 hour to get rid of it.

That said, 4k + Gsync (like the XB280HK) would probably be pretty dope, but #### TN panels forever. Gaming on IPS is something I'm going find hard to turn my back on (much to my pocketbook's regret).

The only real con I can find about this monitor... Other than price... Is the glossy bezel. Is that even an issue?

Not really, but then again I rarely turn down the lights to game. It might be a minor issue if you dislike that sort of thing, however.

That does bring up another minor quibble. The monitor has a 350cm2 light rating, but it's far too bright at brightness levels over 60%. Most reviewers recommend using under 30%, but I'm ~50% (fairly bright room). Over 60% has a bit of light bleed at the edges as well, which is unfortunate.

Bottom line: It is exactly what I've been waiting for. 2560x1440, Gsync, IPS, 144hz, gaming-optimized. Ticks all the boxes, Acer (!!!!) hit it out of the park (first try no less) with this thing.

Still have yet to find a game that has visual lag in it using a (OCd) GTX 980 @ 2560x1440 with minimum 2xMSAA and everything jacked up to full. Surprisingly (or maybe not) the notoriously poorly optimized Planetside 2 comes closest. Older titles like CS:GO, TF2, and BF4 run well over 100 FPS anyway, and the visual difference between a 60 FPS capped w/ VSYNC and a variable 80FPS-120FPS with GSync turned on is mind melting.

Modern titles like GTAV, Shadow Of Mordor, Far Cry 4, and Star Citizen are immaculate.

Actually Star Citizen is makes-you-cry beautiful with this monitor and runs like a dream.

Very jealous, I think I'll get one eventually but it'll probably be a while before I can swing it.

Thinking of getting a GSync monitor (in for a penny, in for a couple hundred more pounds).

PG279Q? That XB270HU mentioned?

I can't really speak to other monitors on the market, but the XB270HU is still far and away the best gaming peripheral I have ever bought.

PG279Q looks like the current king, XB271 is out but haven't read much about that, but the Predator X34 would be what I really want if it had higher than 60Hz.

Hm the X34 says it goes up to 100Hz if it's in G-SYNC mode... sooo expensive...

I'm still not a fan of curved displays to be honest but I should still read up on it. And just 100 hz?

The biggest drawback to a curved monitor I could see would be making other secondary/tertiary monitors on your desk unusable due to the curve.

General non-gaming functions seem like they would be more annoying as well.
