The trend will continue. Salaries are nearly double south of the border when it comes to broadcasting. There are only a select number of gigs in Canada that pay well in the field.

In Canada, a TV anchoring position pays around 50k (there are expectations, of course - Strombo etc.). That's in a major market. In the US, he'll likely be making closer to 80k and if they are on a contract ladder structure, could be making close to 100k after five years.

One of my former coworkers was a reporter on a Canadian sports station five years ago and was making 40k. He received a job offer in Texas for the exact same position in a smaller market and is making 75k now. Combine that with the fact he was able to purchase an amazing 2500 square foot home for under 300,000, life is food for him

Not surprising at all as they are both extremely good at what they do. You had to expect the opportunity was coming...

Sometimes they're attempt at humour can be forced and out of placed, but overall they have to be the best duo on the continent. Jay in particular is a really funny guy. Big loss for the Canadian media. Hope them the best down south.

Terrible news. Best of luck to Dan and Jay. They were the last guys I saw before going to bed on many many nights.

In their honor, I will be spending the rest of my afternoon watching hilarious outtakes and "best of" collaborations. Starting with this gem:

Damn... considering we all make over $100K here on CP, I'm sure we can start our own CP sports network and double what they're getting offered in the US.

Seriously though, that's a surprisingly low salary.

It's not just broadcasting. engineering, medicine, etc....

I really want to go. I have been trying to convince my wife for years, but she does not want to.
