Yeah, hence my last sentence. If he's being unreasonable and wants to bet on himself, that's that. Although given the inflationary pressures on salaries, I don't think 6M per for 8 years would have been a terrible deal... not a good one either, mind you.

1040 is currently desperate to announce this ahead of any official announcement to steal the thunder from Sportsnet 650s debut on Monday.
Sportsnet just took the Canucks away from their long time home of 1040, and it is currently surmised that the Horvat deal is done and that they are waiting for the 650 launch to officially announce it. So every TSN 1040 personality is currently spoiling that and trying to get a scoop on what the deal is.
For the record, much like the Sportsnet hockey on TV being garbage, most expect 650s Canucks broadcasts to also be hot garbage.
Personally I stopped listening when they left CKNW

I hope you guys don't get screwed but RSN's track record unfortunately isn't good. They basically just took over 960 in Calgary so the on air talent, management, and shows never really changed which was a good thing. I imagine it would have been pretty bad if they just started from scratch.
Not sure why Vancouver don't want to lock their next franchise center up for a longer term? Jim Dim, I guess?
I'm not sure if he's a franchise center. I think he's a really good looking 2nd line center ideally. If this is in fact a bridge deal it kind of shows the Canucks don't believe he's a franchise center and are willing to see if he develops into that. It may cost them more money in the long run or it may not. Even though this year it seems like the trend was for long term deals I still think the bridge deal can be useful.
I'm guessing the Canucks wanted something longer but Horvat is betting on himself and pushed for a bridge.
I agree with those that are saying the Canucks may lose on this deal as I see Horvat developing into a great player. Great energy, improved his biggest weakness and eye test validates his growth for me as well.
Statistically, he's producing better than Sam Bennett though I know he has 1 year on Sam.

Horvat is good but he's also had a lot more opportunity than Bennett. Bennett's got two top centres in front of him while Horvat has the rapidly sinking Sedin, and third liner Sutter.

Yup, I agree with you. And as I mentioned he's also 1 year older.

The Canucks are a dumpster fire right now. Why would anyone want to commit to that team long term?
At least the Canucks have admitted they are in a rebuild. Horvat is being routed the next captain and clearly today is their best young player. I am assuming he was pushing for a deal like Monahan, Schiefele, Mackinnon, or Barkov. Thanks to the Oilers inflating the second contract yet again with Draisaitl I think Horvat is in the right wheelhouse asking for $6M+.
At the start of summer te Drouin deal looked right for Horvat. $5.5Mx6
Jim Benning on the new sportsnet radio just now and says they still haven't reached a deal with Bo, but talks are going good and hope to have him signed sometime this week
