Default Need to create a simple forum

Howdy!

I need to create a simple forum for an association I've gotten involved with. To date, all communication is done with long, crappy email chains and I need to put a stop to this.

Was hoping someone would have some suggestions for a simple, easy to set up forum? Minimal cost would be preferred.

Would Google Groups work for you?

Probably not. We have several old timers that are not keen on learning anything new. I think a forum would be easiest as they are already using one for their hobbies. I already tried that as well as suggesting a FB page but all I got was glossy eyed looks from them.

What about using Slack? and creating a group on there? It's more of a group chat application, and less forum like. But simple to use if it's just constant banter in the emails?

That could work too, Slack or HipChat

Some people also create private Facebook groups for discussions... I wouldn't go that route, but it's an option.
