Canadaland is highly reputable. They started the whole We Charity downfall with their work a good year before the mainstream press got it. So from a journalistic standards point of view it should be well vetted. So it will be interesting if they can find corroboration for the more bat#### crazy elements.

The podcast covers the plan in depth.
David Wallace has Russian connections to illegal Russian money. He was going to get Nenshi on camera conspiring to workwith the Russians to launder oligarch money into investments in developments in Calgary while providing kickbacks. Carlo met with them a few times and eventually had a business contact go out with Wallace and get him drunk to work out the scam.

Can you prove Wenzel and other investors knew the specific scheme probably not. But I think you can prove Wenzel have money to Prem to get information for a scandal on Nenshi. And then you can prove everyone else knew the scheme.

I know someone who has been personal friends with him for a long time who I like and respect quite a bit. It never sat right with me, given my thoughts on Farkas. Given that, I'm inclined to think the best in him, and this was a good person that got caught up in a powerful political machine and was their product.
It would be super disappointing if I'm just being successfully manipulated.

They've fallen off my listening rotation (for no reason other than time), but I'd add that the main beat is media/journalism criticism - therefore Canadaland seems to go to great lengths to have their own poop in a group in terms of journalistic standards.
Which isn't to say they are perfect and have avoided scandal/controversy altogether, but IMO they are refreshingly transparent and I give them the benefit of the doubt (though of course the left-bias is obvious, but it's easy to adjust one's lens for that)

There's hope on the horizon, though. Think of all the surplus health care workers there will be once they are no longer working on stages 1 to 3 cancer patients.

On Tuesday during a council meeting, McLean said he would give up his committees and boards and sit with a circle of elders to "learn to grow, change and be better."
He has resigned from the Calgary Stampede board, the council services committee, the annexation negotiations committee for Foothills County, the inter-municipal committee for Foothills County, the intergovernmental affairs committee, the nominations committee and the Silvera for Seniors board. However, he will remain on the infrastructure and planning committee.
McLean has been replaced by Coun. Andre Chabot as the City of Calgary's Grey Cup representative.

Gottq wonder if anybody took the bait though - looking at Chu and Magliotta.
Wonder if SaveCalgary guy is going to defend the Wenzels here.
That said, Nenshi and Carra here exemplified something I have tried to ingrain in my kids; just go to work and do your job properly. Don’t get caught up in distractions or stupid unethical things like enriching yourself at work beyond your salary.

What is the providence of that letter?
Is that from city of Calgary records or is it from Klondike paper sources?

fair. It's Klondike but should be easy enough for Calgary Police to verify/refute assuming they start an investigation.

If you listen to the Canadaland podcast they were able to verify the providence of some of the Klondike email sources but didn’t mention this link yet. I’m cautious to believe anything that isn’t backed up somehow.
On the other hand Wallace says he worked against conservatives as much as their opponents so him using this scheme on Chu and Maglioca in addition to Nenshi and Carlo seems reasonable.
It’s the disinformation technique of hiding false info in a barrage of true info that concerns me.

But it's also pretty on-brand stupid for Chu to fall for something like that.

I could see Chu and Magliocca being stupid enough to fall for it, but I could also seem them being crooked enough to know what they were doing. Probably a bit of both.

Don't forget the Terrigno family (Mike is all over the Klondike Papers) which then helps to link in everyone's favourite rapist councillor Sean Chu, former anti-Nenshi mayoral candidate Andre Chabot and former counciller Joe Magliocca.
Honestly some stunning corruption and power brokering going on at City Hall if even a fraction of this stuff is true (which Canadaland has already validated).

Looks to be confirmed. They tried to cut out Wallace as the middle man.
Quote:
“They were so stupid that they were trying to enrich themselves on something that was supposed to be a bangle to apparently suss out alleged criminality on the mayor’s part,” said Wallace.

Kind of hard to know where to post this story, I've also dropped it into the Alberta politics one.
Read the whole link. This is wild.
