Good point although I’d guess their popularity has more to do being Canada’s only team coming off a championship than their name. Also they did do a massive rebrand years ago removing the purple and the giant dinosaur from their jerseys and going with a look that says Canada’s basketball team more than it does team named after a movie dinosaur.

I love this name. I was hoping for this from day 1. There were mock up uniforms a long while ago on Twitter that were awesome. I think they are dark green?

Anyways, love it

So would they have some cheesy kraken blowup doll in the arena? And some corny pre-game intro like Vegas?

Just have the decency to use "Release the Kraken" as your audio when you go on the PP.

Also it's Kassian's nightmare: having to face an Octopussy.

Release the kraken would also work as a penalty expires.

Lightning, Wild, Mighty Ducks, Penguins, etc.

There's a lot of team names that don't make sense or are/were bad. Kraken is kinda cool and the possibilities for logos and jerseys could be great.

I've never been a fan of the singular team name (including the Colorado Avalanche); it just sounds better to me to have an S on the end. But whatever.

Leaves room for design creativity. Pretty unique in general.
Half the team has red/white/black colours. I doubt Seattle will fall into the group.
I hope they go with a navy/turquoise/green scheme to blend in with the Mariners and Seahawks

Obviously this is all subjective. There have been lots of team names I don’t like, but this is the first time since the “Thrashers” that I’ve really felt like a name feels kind of “not major league” enough.

Strikes me as a roller hockey team or XFL team kind of name. That said, I got used to the Thrashers and I don’t think I felt that way after a few years, maybe this one will also grow on me.

Didn’t Saurolophus host HNIC for a couple of years?

I see a lot of fan mockups utilizing greens and blues in the colour palette. I think that's unlikely given the proximity of the Canuckleheads who seem to have finally settled on their colour scheme.

They could go green and gold (no NHL team currently using that) in anticipation of the inevitable Super Sonics return. Pluses and negatives to this approach.

Speculation is the seafoam green/coral red combination currently featured in their online channels. Seems a bit passive for an ominous-sounding team name in a sport that relies on intimidation.

They'd have to add a black or dark grey for it to work.

I think these colours have always been a bit of red herring, as they started using it really early in the process

I wouldn't be surprised if they add a dark blue matching the Seahawks which would be a pretty great base for the Kraken. I could see that red and the seafoam as pretty neat accent colours though

I can see it.

Honestly, I'm okay with it. I was advocating for the Rain City Bitch Pigeons or something to honour Seattle's long and storied history of rampant methamphetamine abuse. You know, something more along their own cultural lines as opposed to being named after a mythical sea monster from the other side of the world.

I hate to break it to Seattleians (<-WTF?) but you're not coastal to all oceans, just the Pacific.

Penguins is a fantastic name for a hockey team. Plus the alliteration with Pittsburgh and it really works IMO.

My unscientific survey of two completely non-sports fans who live in Seattle was met with unanimous joy and immediate plans to buy merchandise. Seattle Kraken would sell a lot of gear.
