I'm coming around to the idea that it'd be a good idea as well, but I'm sure MLB doesn't want the additional negative light on their league by having the no record for those years due to cheating. While it makes sense to me (corporate responsibility and being honest), I'm sure MLB views it as something that people can point to for league credibility. They simply wouldn't want it to be in the books forever, as they want to move away from this quickly.

Yeah, you're probably right. Basically their best move was to create a really tough sentence that punishes the teams but doesn't cast light beyond the baseball world into the pop culture/mainstream media world.
Plus, fans of those teams must know that these weren't real titles at this point, anyways. And no one else wouldn't recognize them as such, so they're effectively stripped in that sense.

Boston apparently on the verge of dealing Betts. I think it’s a very smart move. You hardly ever see such a move where you’re one of the best teams and are maximizing their best players value at the peak of his career. I think it’s brilliant as it sets them up for future years by getting grade A prospects. Still a bit bitter this leadership team couldn’t deal Bautista or Donaldson at their primes.

One of my best friends is a Nationals fan (followed the Expos).
He's been going around saying that the Nationals are the only World Series Champions in the last three years.

@Ken_Rosenthal
oth Mookie Betts and David Price would head to Los Angeles if #RedSox and #Dodgers complete their blockbuster, a source tells The Athletic. Alex Verdugo would be centerpiece for Boston. Deal could be in place tonight, per @alexspeier. Would require completion of medical reviews.

I guess terms are still in talks, so I wouldn't be surprised if one team last minute ups their offer, but I'm not sure this deal is good for either team. Not nearly a high enough ceiling on the prospects coming back because of Price being included, but still a very good player coming back from what I read in Verdugo. LA deals a good prospect for 1 year control of Betts and taking on a tbd portion of Price? I don't get this deal more from LA's perspective from such a smart organization. I'd think they'd be able to twist Boston's nuts but I guess not.

Pretty huge deal.
The Dodgers got the best player in the entire deal in Betts, only catch being he is a UFA after one season. They must be confident that they can re-sign him.
Red Sox get at least two very high end prospects in Verdugo and Graterol.
Twins get Maeda to solidify their rotation while they try to win for the next few seasons.
Plus the Dodgers send Joc Pederson to the Angels.
Lots of moving parts. Crazy

If I were Trout, I'd walk over to Dodger Stadium and see if anyone notices.

Must be nice to be the dodgers. Flip Maeda and a prospect for Betts and a half price Price. One would assume a monster extension for Betts will be coming down the pipe too...Their rotation is going to be significantly different than last year, that’s for sure.

Crazy to think that Trout might not be the highest paid ball player in LA when this is all said and done.

Except for the, ya know, back to back World Series losses to cheaters.
Honestly, I can't imagine how angry I would be if I were a Dodgers fan.
I'm a Rangers fan, and 2011's BS Wildcard getting home field advantage due to Verlander pitching awful in the All Star Game, combined with the awful umpiring makes my blood boil.
And it's not like the Cardinals out right cheated, just benefited from MLB incompetance and stupidity.
Ugh, I can feel my blood pressure is literally going up as I type, and again that's not near the level of bull that the Dodgers went through.

Maybe I've forgotten some of the details, but wasn't he betting on his own team to win? I don't think cheating came into the fold with him. Conflict of interest obviously, but cheating, not to my knowledge. At this point I'd say he has a fair point with baseball setting the bar low for ethics.

He claims he was only betting on his team to win, but he also moved the goalposts repeatedly on that point - right up until he finally agreed to a ban to halt further investigation into his gambling.
It's almost impossible to believe that he wouldn't have also bet on the Reds to lose at times. Especially if he knew he had a pitcher struggling, or a sputtering offence. And at that point, it's a very short hop to managing to win the bet rather than the game.

Yeah, he went from:
I didn't bet on baseball
to
I did, but not my team
to
Ok, my team but only to win
There's only one more logical step...

I don't know why, but this really annoyed me.
Shouldn't it be he moved the foul poles? There are no goal posts in baseball.

The Astros going with the very bold "We cheated, but it didn't help" strategy.
