Good for Farkas I guess, but IMO he's just regressing to the minimum standards of human decency. I think I'll hold my applause for at least a few more years, and I don't think I'll ever agree with his politics.

I am more worried about his change of attitude as really genuine or just a wolf in sheep’s clothing move. I guess we’ll see if he ever get elected to office again.

Maybe it's because I badly want to be this a story about someone admitting they made mistakes and growing, but IMO much easier than faking redemption would be just to double down on the right wing rhetoric provincially or federally. He had an easy path ahead of him to stay in politics and chose not to chase that immediately. That says something. I hope.

Yeah, I've noticed a dramatic change in Farkas since the mayoral run, and I think there maybe is a genuine change of heart on some of his politics and positions. As someone who has experienced a ton of personal growth in the last year myself, I can understand how a person can change and it can actually be legitimate growth rather than change for the sake of a PR campaign.

If the Jeromy Farkas we see and hear from today was the one who was running for the mayoral vote back in 2021, I'd have happily voted for him, but he wasn't. Gondek has been a massive disappointment, not something I can say for other people I've voted for... although I will repeat what others said during that election, at the time it was a vote against Farkas and not for Gondek.

Yeah, I was definitely voting against Farkas and not for Gondek last time.

Next time I'm likely to reverse that and vote against Gondek.

I'd recommend doing some research about the candidates and their policies and instead of voting as a block against a candidate you can cast your vote for a candidate that you can support and agree with even if that person is a long shoot. If enough people did this instead of just listening to PACs or joining movements like ABC it might result in more effective councils.

https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/do-the-ri...hike-1.6653509

City administration is recommending changes to next year's budget that could see residential property taxes hiked by 7.8 per cent – about $16 per month for the typical single-family home.

Forty-three speakers lined up before council and more than 250 submitted budget feedback online. The majority of the public submissions were against the proposed tax increase.

Council has already approved a residential tax increase of 3.4 per cent. The boosted spending would add another 2.4 per cent to that number and the tax shift, if approved, would result in another two per cent.

There were some posts by him on Reddit or Twitter, after his hiking epiphany journey, where he showed his old Farkas colours. I dunno. I’ll believe he’s changed when he gets back into politicks and doesn’t revert back into a Manning Institute grandstander.

I also think it's possible that he hasn't really changed much, but the rest of the right has gone completely out to lunch in the last few years making him look reasonable by comparison

How about a rule where the tax increase in the fourth and final year of each administration has to be the average of the first three? Does anyone else notice how there's never a tax increase in an election year?

That's a high bar for modern conservatives to clear.

Well how many days did he spend working in BC vs. working in Alberta? That's the part I'm more interested in. Where he spends his time off is of no interest to me as a voter.

I also spend more time vacationing in BC than I do in Alberta.

Why would he want to holiday in a province full of buffoons with an unhealthy obsession for him?

We want less Ottawa in Alberta!...but also disappointed He doesn't come here? Time to pick a lane.

You'd think those that hate him would be happy he spends as little time as possible working.

I'm with you oh hoping he really has changed.
That being said, he'll need to show me before I vote for him for anything, because as of now I'm more inclined to base my voting on his body of work as a councilor than what he's saying now.

What he's saying now is great, and I really hope it's sincere, but until he shows me he can lead/govern/represent people beyond just grandstanding, I'm just not there yet.
