Judging by the earlier contract talk with Cammy I would imagine Burke will sign him for 1 or 2 years, trade him at the deadline next year if there is value.

Cammy will resign for a Glencross-like hit for 2 or 3yrs.
Butler will walk for nothing.
Meh.

I hope Cammy is resigned. We don't have many good vets left and Cammy brings alot to the table for the young guys.
If Cammy is resigned I could see Hudler dealt at the draft for good value. Then we get to keep Cammy and still get value in another trade.
It will work out, Burke is king.

My bet, Cammy will not re-sign and is traded at the draft.
I would think the Flames made every effort to trade him but the right value was not there...

Considering how late both the Moulson/Vanek deals were, and the value that the buyers gave in order to get the players, I can see why Cammy might not have moved.

Then Burke is being selfish and is hurting the Calgary Flames for his own personal benefit. He's not supposed to be the GM of this team past the season remember... any "message sending" of this nature burnishes his own reputation not the reputation of whomever is hired to be the GM longterm.

I really wanted to see him traded but with Berra going for a 2nd unexpectedly I can live with this situation. That's all I expected for Cammy, after all.
All I can hope for now is that he re-signs to a one year 'help us reach the cap floor' deal, plays well, and earns us a pick at next year's deadline in a way better draft.

Burke must feel he can get Cammy signed, otherwise he would have taken anything in return, even a 7th rouder. I assume we'll see Cammy sign an exension.

Can we sign him to an extension past the deadline? Or do we have to wait for free agency now

I would be shocked if Cammy resigns, why would he want to they asked to trade him and now it didn't happen.
Why would he want to stay and why would he be willing to do a extension so they the Flames can flip him to a team he wants to go to.
Cammy can accomplish that with his agent without the Flames come FA day.
Burke pooped the bed on this one unless by some way he pulls off a rights deal trade which i doubt will surface.

If Cammy resigns, he will resign to a 2 or 3 year of 4-5m per.
I would resign Butler too, he is getting better, but I am pretty sure a lot of CPers don't agree with me. If he did, how much would we resign him for?

I also don't think any team wanted Cammy unless an extension was made first.

The ability to have Cammalleri here for the rest of the season and the possibility of re-signing him is far greater than giving him away for nothing.

To me if a second round pick was offered for Cammy then we should have taken it. But I would say that a 3rd and a 5th is not worth enough if you believe you have a reasonable chance at resigning him.
His rights are worth at least a 4th or 5th at the deadline. So the differnce in what we could have got today and now is about a 3rd round pick. Also as Colorado showed uninspired veterans are the key to tanking properly.

Have to disagree with the take what you can get theory for Cammalleri. He's great to have for the team. Look at how good the fire sale went in Edmonton. Loading up on young guys and rushing them in is not the way to go. Even in a rebuild you still need to strike a balance. And Cammy especially is a great guy to teach the kids.
Now I'm not saying don't trade him for the right deal, not at all. If a good deal comes along, you gotta take it. But a rebuild does not mean exchange ALL your assets for younger/newer ones at once, and so if you have a good older asset, you wait for the right deal.
Unless it's a superstar type player that you're banking on to start the rebuild and fear the deals will only get worse in time, like the whole conversation on when was the right time to trade Iggy. But Cammalleri isn't the same thing. Signing him will help us, and if we can't get a better deal, we just keep him, not a bad thing.
