Monahan for Zibenejad.....who adds?

Really like both players, think it'd be the Rangers adding. Zibenejad is two years older and while putting up career numbers this year he still trailed Monahan. Contracts are close, you save a million a season with Zibenejad but Monahan is signed for four more seasons vs Z's three.
Ultimately the Flames need to bolster themselves down the middle. Neither are "star" first line centers so that means the number two guy has to be just a strong. Ideally you get both, keep Lindholm at RW, Backlund moves to 3rd C. Jankowski is shipped out.

There are very few players that would be an upgrade on Monahan, and all would involve Monahan going the other way.
The Pipe Dream : Malkin
The Best we Can Do : Point
Stealth Move : Zibinejad
Move Lindholm to Centre : Sam Reinhart
Move Lindholm to Centre and Pray : Nolan Ryan
I don't know if there is anyone else even remotely available, or rumoured to be. Very few top six centres who arn't cemented into their spot.

Zibinejad plays a big game. He would be a great add for this team.
134 hits last season. Would have put him in 2nd on the team, between Hathaway and Bennett. Plus he brings offense.

I never understood why Ottawa traded him. Seems like the kind of player you would want to have on your roster.

Target one of Gourde, Miller, Johnson or Cirelli for Brodie in the offeason to become our 2nd line center.

Brodie would make a fair amount of sense for Tampa because they're set to lose quite a lot of defensemen this summer. Stralman, Coburn, and Girardi are all UFAs.

Not only will they need D, but they will also want to shed some cap space to fit Karlsson in there so he and Hedman can play together. Just a hunch. Also they need to sign Point.
Bolts aren't a bad trade partner at all.

And the main thing with Tampa is that, like Calgary, they just suffered through a shockingly dismal playoff performance. They're another team that will be looking to make changes throughout their lineup, particularly with their secondary players.
I think there could be some mutual desire to shake things up between those two teams.

I’m guessing TB is going to want to get rid of Palat who has struggled the last couple of years. I’d rather get picks for Brodie than a reclamation project.

They'll want to shed cap space, much like Calgary, so they likely have little desire to take Brodie.
Both teams will want to come out net positive to quite a bit of degree in moving it's desirable assets.
Now Calgary could move Brodie for draft picks, then turn around and offer draft picks for, say, Johnson.

How about Brodie for Miles Wood. He is the kind of player we need.

I'd take Palat for Brodie. Palat has 69 points in 120 games over his last two seasons, good for a 47-point pace per season, plus he's excellent defensively. Does well in the playoffs, too. Only qualm is with his $5.3 million salary.

I think Wood is great, although it honestly makes far less sense than Kadri. Wood is 23 and cost-controlled for three more seasons. Kadri will be 29 at the start of 2019-20, same as Brodie. They're far more comparable players. The Devils shouldn't be trading their younger players with upside for pending UFAs.

TO will never trade Kadri. They are in the same boat as us, they need gritty players also.

I'd be willing to bet that Kadri is dealt this summer. He has worn out his welcome in Toronto, and they need to sign Kapanen and Johnsson.

I doubt that you don't trade players like Kadri. He is there Marchand and he is on a great contract. I could see them trading Johnsson and another piece to make room for Marners contract. They have players in the minors like Bracco ready to step up.

Who are we trading Monahan to for a 72 year old retired pitcher?
