Not a chance. He is a 6-7th dman, coming off a season where he barely played because of health issues. He makes $3.5 million. Far cheaper options on the ufa market.

Good value signing by Treliving. Also buys one year of UFA as well

I still can't believe the Oilers are paying Koskinen $4.5 million for the next three seasons. That contract was pure stupidity as if he was UFA this summer there's no way any team gives him anything near that.

There are 18 UFA defencemen left who played NHL games last season. 5 played fewer games than Stone. Two others are likely to retire (Method and Kronwall). Stone is 29, so younger than most on the UFA market as well. There really are not many options left in the UFA market.

I’d love to see a poll on Stone’s immediate future.
Bought out
Brought back
Traded for a pick
Traded with salary retained
Some folks had strong opinions on his value during the year but debate on that front has been quiet lately.

Order of preference:
-Traded for pick
-Traded w salary retained
-Bought out
-Brought back (assuming would mean getting rid of Brodie or Frolik for less value than hoped for; if they could get value equivalent to Kadri for Brodie, then I would consider bringing Stone)
What I think will happen:
-Bought out (unless a good value trade for Brodie or Frolik materializes before the buyout deadline because if they don't buy him out before the deadline then they are committing to trading Brodie or Frolik given that Stone is not tradeable)

Ryan Dittrick @ryandittrick
Just chatted with David Rittich, fresh off signing a new two-year deal. Happy with how things went last year, but man, is this guy ever pumped to prove himself in the starter's net. "Last year taught me so much about myself. Now, I've never been more ready."
He's also super, super pumped to work with Cam Talbot this year. Hasn't met him yet, but spoke to some of Talbot's past Czech teammates: "I hear he's a great guy, great goalie. Can't ask for more in a partner. It's going to be a great situation, us pushing each other."

Great job by Brad to get him for 2 years at this price. This could be one of the biggest contract steals as soon as this fall.
No idea what Tree does to get Tkachuk's deal done. He almost certainly has to move a player out to sign him for any length of time.

He’s a tradeable asset, but likely not without retaining some cap or taking some cap back.
Brodie could be traded without taking cap back.
It’s possible Frolik could be traded for picks, but more likely Calgary has to take cap back.
Stone is in the 3rd category.

Wow great contract. Having a 1A/1B tandem in net for under 6 million is a HUGE win for BT and the Flames. Great job by both parties to get this done.

Unlike Bennett, BSD will be a UFA when this deal is up. Hope he cashes in because it will mean he’s emerged as our number one, and I imagine he’d likely want to stay with the team that gave him the chance to play in the NHL.

I am unclear as to why people think this was a savings. I always assumed it'd come in at under $3M aav, even more so as the cap structure for next season developed. Based on the "negotiations" threads, it seemed like everyone had him coming in under 3. This seems totally fair, I'm just saying I don't think it's a steal.
