Keith Tkachuk held out more than once in his career, is anybody surprised that he’s not signed yet?

This. He’s only killing his future career earnings if he sits out a year and no one is giving him a better offer next year after he hasn’t played in the NHL for a full year.
The flames can outlast and he’s hurting himself the most. I think he softens before November.

Matthews's contract is not the only comparable, and is reasonably posited as an outlier.

Keith Tkachuk was never being offered $50M on a single deal.

He was being offered a lot of money for the time, it’s all relative. My point is I don’t think chucky is afraid to sit and wait.

Depends on what the offer is. If the Blues are desperate enough to bring a Tkachuk back to the organization that they will pony up Tarasenko you do that every day. My point is if someone wants to overpay or make an offer that makes the Flames better it can be done.

The Flames are one of the softest teams in the NHL. If we were to trade Tkachuk for Tarasenko, we would be softer than butter.
Tkachuk isn't getting traded.

The market is well established. He is getting over $7 and fair market is in the $8’s on anything over a 5 year term.

He did squat in the playoffs.
He is not even the 5th best player on the team.
3 years in the league, and he thinks he's worth 8-10 mil?

Playoff success is irrelevant in today’s market. The Leafs are paying $40 million to 4 guys who have never won a playoff round.
Tkachuk was also the best player in game 1 of the playoffs last year. He wasn’t great for the rest of the series but he wasn’t the worst. If you want to play that game, well then, Tkachuk was better than Gaudreau and Monahan; therefore, he should make more money than them.
There are a bunch of players in the league who are making $8 to $10 million with only 3 years in the league. That is where the market has gone.
The league has changed now, seniority is out the window, you pay the premium for the years after the entry deal now.
Ad for where he stands on the Flames, I have him ranked fourth after Lindholm but ahead of Monahan, but that is all irrelevant when it comes to the salary pecking order.

His Dad, made $8m, $8m, and then $11m & $10m for the four consecutive seasons leading the 04/05 lockout. Ironically, those contracts were clawed back with the new Capped CBA, and you could point that his contract was one of the most noted for leading to the owner lockout.

Rantanen is awesome with or without MacKinnon. I would be quite happy with a 1 for 1 Tkachuk-Rantanen trade, and Tkachuk is one of my favorite Flames. Rantanen is offensively just obviously better IMHO. Hands are not quite as soft, but shot is better (different strengths though), skating is significantly better and vision is about equal.
Tkachuk is a more unique player, but I think he's more of a 60-80 point player, while Rantanen is a 70-90 point player.

Tkachuk is an irritating player, not really a physical one. And while we still would be one of the softest teams in the NHL that does not change the fact Tarasenko is a significant upgrade at a much lesser cap hit at a position of need. Vlady would be a lock for 50 goals every year playing with Johnny and Lindy could drop to 2nd line C. You make that deal every freakin day.

You might not but BT would, I would bet money on that. You do what makes the team better, it is nothing personal. I would also bet the Blues would hang up so it is not even worth debating.

Agreed....just creates a different hole on the team as far as filling in the offensive contribution. MT outproduced Tarasenko last year as it is.
Then you lose the grease factor and give up 6 years in age.
Not a chance BT makes that deal.

Yeah, even if it is debatable who is more valuable now (it isn't for me), there is no debate about who is more valuable 2 years from now. Tarasenko turns 28 in Dec, and offense is the only thing he provides (and offense isn't the Flames' problem).

Whole flames team with the exception of Bennett and Smith did squat.
Its a none factor in the negotiation in my view
Agent will tell the team, what is Tkachuk in 3 to 4 years time when Giordano retires?
Probably the captain of the team, the key piece on the club...

Tkachuk setup 2 OT winners if it wasn't for the stone hands on his line
