Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Not Doug Risebrough. Don't care what he did on the ice, he cannot be forgiven for his tenure as GM.

Risebrough was a great Calgary Flame. His shredding of McSorely's jersey while sitting in the box should win it for him alone. Heart and soul guy. He was a leader during many of those Battle of Alberta matches against Edmonton and I have immense respect for him.

Bure was fun to have around but my vote goes to Risebrough.

Risebrough the player was great. Risebrough the GM was awful. Since this is a vote for players, he gets my vote.

The Risebrough GM thing is funny ... I don't blame him for the Gilmour trade as much as shredding Nieuwendyk in an arbitration hearing. So many side stories to that one including adjoining rooms and Joe hearing Gilmour trash him while laughing.

But the trade was fishy ... pushed by McNamara and then months later McNamara quits and surfaces in Toronto.

Lesson was never deal with your former boss that soon ... he knows your roster too well.

Risebrough hands down as a player, But what an awful gm he was. He alone probably set the franchise back 5 years with his futility.

Risebrough. Like McDonald and Tonelli, Risebrough brought a winning attitude and work ethic to the team and made the younger players believe in themselves. Getting over the mental hurdle of playing against the superstar laden Oilers was bad enough, but convincing yourself you could beat them was another thing. Risebrough was a major part of instilling that belief in the organization and team.

Risebrough the player helped give the Flames an identity. Risebrough the GM stripped the Flames of their identity.

Riser. He was a very key player for the Flames in those early days in Calgary. Very good all-around player.

As a coach or G.M. he was pretty abysmal. I won't let that discount what he did as a player for the Flames.

Bure is the only other option as he had 3 notable seasons in Calgary of 50 or more points, including a 35 goal 75 point year, which incidentally were his best in the NHL. Not a long enough tenure and didn't bring a lot else besides offense, so he's 2nd on this list for me.

Throughout his career, Risebrough was an agitator, often assigned to pester the opponents' top players. In one famous chapter of the Battle of Alberta, Risebrough, while playing with the Flames fought with Marty McSorley. Risebrough lost the fight, but ended up with McSorley's jersey, which he shredded with his skates.

I almost went with Risebrough for the McSorely shredded jersey incident because it pissed Glen Sather off so god damn much. However, I always viewed him as a complimentary player on a fantastic team. Val Bure, OTOH, was one of the few bright spots for the Flames during his tenure here, and it was in Calgary that he was able to find himself and become more than just Pavel's little brother.

Can anyone imagine that jersey shredding scenario happening in today's hockey? The guy would be admitted to the psych ward, fined big time and probably suspended for 20 games.

Went with Riser though. One of the Flames' greatest all-time pests.

Voted Risebrough.

Bure was hugely overlooked here in Calgary though. Like Resolute said, one of the few bright spots on that team. I was mad as hell when that trade went down.

Voted Bure.

One of the few bright spots of the young guns era, was an all-star, and even had a 35 goal and 75 point season (which placed him 14th in league scoring that year).

Risebrough was close, but the tiebreaker was that he destroyed the franchise once his playing career was over.

Maybe it's the generation-factor at work, but I went with Bure. I essentially grew up in the fall of the franchise and the transition into the dark/Young Gun era. Bure was one of the few exciting reasons to watch the Flames during that time, and the impact of becoming a full fledged fan of a struggling team was lessened because of his time in Calgary.
