Default Jersey Poll - All Time #4

Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

Have fun! and Go old guys!

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Results:
1 - Roman Turek 67.8% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138746)
2 - Al MacInnis 99% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138764)
3 - Dion Phaneuf 70% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138765)

I understand the McCrimmon votes. Because he was an excellent defenseman, an important part of the cup team and due to the sentimental reasons around what happened to him a few years ago. I expect him to be the worthy winner of this poll.

Nevertheless I am voting for Rautakallio. He was an exciting, talented player and he and Paul Reinhart were the second best Flames pairing ever (behind MacInnis-Suter) and he deserves some love.

Brad McCrimmon, no doubt in my mind. This is not nostalgia, he was by far one of the most underrated defenders and leaders, evidenced by his coaching career following playing. I don't think we'll see Leopold or Bouwmeester as a coach ever.

Voted McCrimmon, by far the most deserving but whenever I think of #4 I'll always think of...

Sarge lead the league in plus minus as a Flame. He was also an All Star defenceman as a Flame.

I believe Pekka Reutakalio was also an all star for the Flames one season - and he was also the "big" sticker for the Flames in the o-pee-chee sticker books one season.

Bouwmeester for sure. Got a bad rap but was the best player to ever wear 4 here.

Hard to compare them, as they are two totally different types in defensemen. My guess is that your statement will get trashed as Bou is not held too highly around here.

Sarge gets my vote. He wasn't flashy in the slightest, but just solid. I feel like you always felt good with him out there. Hockey-Reference has him listed at #10 all time for Defensive Point Shares: http://www.hockey-reference.com/leaders/dps_career.html

It still irks me that we traded him after the 1990 season, as he went on to have a few solid year with Detroit. Here is the deal we made with Detroit, which I guess wasn't terrible, it's just frustrating that the pick never turned out.

June 15, 1990: Traded to Detroit by Calgary for Detroit's 2nd round choice (later traded to New Jersey - New Jersey selected David Harlock) in 1990 Entry Draft, June 15, 1990.

I also thought Kevin Dahl when I saw this thread. The most generic d-man ever.

Trent Yawney and Kevin Dahl were such a brutal pairing in the 90's. They used to drive me crazy.

I voted Sarge, Hamrlik would have been second, but Baxter would have made the grade ahead of Bouwmeester/Kyte/Leopold for me.

Sarge gets my vote. Bouwmeester is second and Leopold is third in my little world.

As far as what they meant to the team at the time they played, I would have to go with McCrimmon.
