Yeah. My stepson and his fiance both recently switched from Rogers to Wind and they have not been happy with reception at all. Telus has the best coverage overall IMO. Out West for sure.

But on wind I pay like $30/mo? So even if it is better, it's almost double the cost...

For the folks that are on Wind, has their service improved since the last round of reviews and spectrum auctions?

That's why I use Wind. Is it the best coverage everywhere? No, far from it, if having the best coverage is important to you Wind is not the way to go. Is it the cheapest? Yes by far especially since I'm on an older $30 plan that includes 5GB before hitting the throttle limit.
I find Wind works good ~90% of the time and I'm not someone who needs to be connected all the time but regularly use over 4GB/month so a similar plan with anyone else would be $100/month. For a savings of $70/month and the fact I live and work around the inner city I am fine having a delay on some of my texts and emails.

I'm down to 30 per month with wind and quite happy. My wife's bell reception and speed is better but not $40 per month better. I'll reevaluate when getting a new phone what makes sense as Winds device subsidy is not as good as the other guys but my S3 is still kicking along pretty good.

Yeah I guess there is a price difference. I used to pay $40 for Wind. I switched to the Koodo plan and it is spectacularly better for me in every regard. For an extra $10 a month (i brought my own device over), it was a no brainer.
Wind data speeds should almost be measured in bauds.

I agree, the data is quite slow. I almost never use data on my phone though. My Ipad does that for me.

I feel like I must be doing something wrong with Wind. If I leave the city, even for 5 feet (my Dad lives in Springbank and I have no service out there) I'm roaming. If I'm downtown in many buildings, I'm roaming. If I'm in the bathroom at work, f***ing roaming.
No wonder they have to lower the roaming rates, I literally roam everywhere.

The frequency that Wind uses does not penetrate buildings very well. I noticed that I was roaming whenever I went to the washroom at my old job as well. One of the reasons I switched to Koodo. LTE while I poop=glorious

A lot of large concrete buildings, especially downtown offices, have cell repeaters set up inside the building because a lot of cell phone signals have trouble penetrating concrete. If your building is big enough, you could probably get them to set this up. My office had one of these put in and it fixed our warehouse cell phone issues... sadly they didn't include the AWS frequency for Wind when they did this as you mentioned it's even worse than the other carriers in concrete.

Lol, seemed much easier to pay an extra $10 a month and switch to Koodo.

This one post answered more questions than two hours of google searches. Either I'm doing it wrong or the CP brain trust is really that remarkable.
I think it's the latter.

Lots of different industry folks are also hockey fans. Lol.
I just knew the Wind/Rogers/Mobilicity deal only got finalized in last week of June/first week of July and there is no humanly possible way you can spin up the additional spectrum in under two weeks of getting a license. Ink hasn't dried on the paper work for that deal.
They were looking for equipment providers for the newly acquired spectrum still as of early July.

Wind sells it's Manitoba AWS-1 spectrum (from the Rogers-Mobilicity deal) to MTS for a whopping $45 million dollars. For comparison, the block of 2500Mhz spectrum bought by MTS was only $2.2million. Wind only paid $54 million total for AWS-3 across all provinces in the last spectrum auction.
Money will be used to stengthen its positions in Ontario, Alberta and BC w/ LTE rollout expected in 2016.

And some to Sask
http://mobilesyrup.com/2015/07/31/sa...m-wind-mobile/
Quote:
Coming off the news of Wind Mobile dishing out its ASW-1 spectrum in Manitoba to MTS for $45 million, the carrier has also offloaded some of its spectrum to Saskatchewan-based carrier SaskTel.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but SaskTel acquired two blocks of AWS-1 spectrum (20 MHz). In an email statement to us, SaskTel stated, “We can’t release the purchase price at this time as the agreement has not been finalized. The transfer was approved, however, we are still working on the terms of the agreement with WIND.”
Similar to MTS, SaskTel will use the new found spectrum to provide better service and build out its network, specifically in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Estevan, Weyburn, North Battleford and Yorkton.

Signed the GF up as a 2nd line under my plan last week.
The guy said they were hoping to have Okotoks service up and running by April.

The customer service is awful...but after everything is up and running, you never need customer service. So it really doesnt matter
The network is great inside the city. Its non existant for road trips and camping. Thats the only real negative.
The upside: no bill surprises, consistant service, and a low price

Are data speeds still awful?
