If Bennett can play well on the PK, play hard and stay out the box then I would be more then happy if he produced 40-50 points a year

Can we just be somewhere in between on Bennett? No need to lay a beating on him based on game breaking expectations, but neither should we fanboy and glorify his visual game despite any statistical results.
He's currently not a top player on the team, but he's also not Hathaway/Lazar. It's pretty okay to be on the fence on him right now, you don't have to be firmly on one side or the other.

Something was either really ####ed up with the ice or everyone needs some laser rust removal because there was a pretty notable quantity of whiffed shots and bobbled pucks that didn't look particularly difficult to handle

I find it quite amusing how you continuously call people out on this board who don't share the same opinion as you.
As Strange Brew pointed out in another thread:

"fans" --> who the heck gives you the right to determine who is a fan and who is not?

Too be clear, there is no problem with analyzing a player. If that involves thoughtful criticism, even if it it harsh then so be it. What Is unproductive, and quite frankly toxic, is criticism without analysis. It may as well just be called insulting for the sake of making a person feel bad.
The difference between- Bennett shouldn't take as many stupid penalties in the offensive zone and Bennett is garbage fire him into the sun is monumental.
Maybe I am a sentimental fan, but I want to like the players on the team, and I want them to enjoy their time with the Flames. Shamelessly insulting players on the team you support has no place in the game at any level. Unless they play for the Oilers.

It is almost trollish at times. It would be one thing to point out something in his play but quite another with the negativity.

We need to be realistic about this. At this point, Bennett isn't going to net a starting goalie with salary retained in a trade unless you add a lot. If I'm the Flames, I'm not willing to part with a roster player with lots of team control plus one of Dube, Andersson, Kylington, or Valimaki and a first round pick for an upgrade in goal with salary retained, but that's likely what it would take.
Bennett is worth more in the lineup if we're planning to be a contender than anything else we could get in return.

What a lemon.

Two games into the pre-season and we're already all over players?
I'm as done with Bennett as anyone but he needs time to at least find his legs and become acclimated to playing with new players, under a new coach. It's unfair to evaluate him or anyone for that matter until they've played a decent amount of meaningful hockey....like maybe revisit this sometime in mid November?

I’d like to see Bennett and Janko get Czarnik or Dube on the right wing.

Uh, Hamilton didn't play on the PP much in Calgary. And when he did it was terrible still.

Re: Sam Bennett. Getting chances and missing on them is fine. At least he's getting them. It's hockey, they don't all go in. If he's not getting chances, it's a problem.
A guy who 'couldn't finish' and was lambasted for missing 10 breakaways has scored 53 goals for the Montreal Canadiens since we waived him.
I'm just not that eager to remake that movie with the former 4th overall pick in the leading role.

In his three seasons in Calgary, he had the second-most PP ice time among defencemen, behind Gio. He scored an equal number of goals and only one less point than Gio on the PP in the last three seasons.

^ Also: Sven Baertschi, after only scoring 8 goals in 66 games for the Flames goes on to score 49 goals in 193 games for the Vancouver Canucks.

I watched the 1st 2 periods before going to the office. I would like to see us ice a line-up that does not include Lazar, Hathaway, Kulak or Stone. I thought Andresson looked good, and even Prout was fine. Hopefully, once the pieces are sorted, one of Ryan or Czarnik winds up with Bennett/Jankowski.
