But beyond that, you are bad at this and doing it all wrong.

Please bear in mind that the title of this thread is "EDMONTON IS NO GOOD." If you have good things to say about Edmonton, the Oilers, or any of their players it does NOT belong in this thread. If you really don't want to be "dragged into it," then this is not the thread for you.

Hello, this is Savid Daples Oiler Blogger extraordinary, I've never actually been to an Oilers game, and most of the Oilers hate me, but I'm their biggest fan. Thanks for clicking on this article so I can appear to be relevant. This is my prediction of the Oilers scoring this year

McDavid: 30-50-80. At the end of the year the Oilers announce that Connor has been suffering from space rabies, shingles, the Oriental Bird Flu, Hemorrhoids and Amoebic dysentery
Draisaitl: 21-30-51 Leon spends half the year with his own line and racks up 8 goals in 40 games, when he's reunited with Connor in the garbage time of the season he explodes
RNH: 21-25-46 The Connor RNH connection fails when the Oilers forget that you need someone to retrieve the puck from the corner, and RNH doesn't know where that is
Lucic: 11-13-24 halfway through the year a thinner and slower Lucic says screw it and goes on the Burger King diet, he becomes entertaining as the fattest slow guy in hockey
Strome: 11-12-23 Wait until next year crows Lowe, he was so visibly better this year
Puljujarvi: 8-8-16 He misses half of the season when he hurts himself chasing a laser pointer around the dressing room
Klefbom: 8-20-28 Oiler fans realize that this turd is never going to be a top two defenseman and scream for his trade at the deadline. Klefbom emphatically agrees
Reider: 14-15-29 Wow I guess he really is a bottom line talent says T-Mac
Caggiula: 5-10-15 At least he's an elite penalty killer, Oiler fans state, but the villain from Encino man posts a long blog disagreeing
Nurse: 7-17-24 He post 4 of his goals and 5 of his assists during a three game streak, the Oilers raise a banner with his name on it
Benning: 6-12-18 Declared the Oilers MVP as he is the only guy not using velcro to tie his skates
Rattie: 8-11-19 misses the last 20 games of the year from injuries sustained as most of his goals were rebounded off of his face by Connor who was suffering from blurred vision caused by anthrax
Yamamoto: 7-11-18 Fans wonder if he shouldn't have scored more in his first pro season playing in the ECHL
Brodziak:2-9-11 The most positive thing of his season was when his seniors discount card for Denny's arrived in the mail.

Other than being a little pessimistic about McDavid, that all looks quite reasonable to me.

CC can go on a rampage all day about the Oilers. And, as weird and ridiculous his posts are, I freaking love them.

David Staples column on fans complaining about sucking again next year, and it isn’t even September!

Quote:
This in from long-time Oilers fan and Twitter humorist Mental Gas @mental_gas, who recently tweeted: “Looking at my Oilers season ticket bill and I am currently regretting renewing my seats. My interest in the team is waning. First time in years I haven’t looked forward to the start of training camp. I hope that changes this season…. I think between the cost, entertainment value and the often negative SM (Social Media) narrative, it’s not a relationship that makes me excited. Muting Oilers made my TL (timeline) a lot more tolerable…that’s not a good sign… The allure of the new arena is gone… I’m actually dreading the start of the season.”
Quote:
This pre-amble is my way of saying that when I hear a fan like Mental Gas talking about losing interest in the team, I put a lot of weight in that. I take notice. He’s not a complainer. He’s a loyal and generally optimistic fans. In that way, he’s like the vast majority of folks who follow the Oilers and buy tickets. But it does not surprise me in the last that he’s losing interest. I’m also losing interest. I get it.
More fan quotes:
Quote:
”I hear you. Had to pick up extra shifts this summer to manage them this year. I’m tired and really hope they don’t let us down again… The new arena is a total bust as far as I’m concerned- it has no personality; the rules there are unbearable. The game atmosphere is non existent; no crowd involvement etc. Management doesn’t give a sh*t. We’ve had our tix since 79 – they could have grandfathered in some discount to season tix holders at Rogers. The team stopped caring about the fans the year they started a wait list. They didn’t need to be loyal to us anymore.”
Even more fan quotes:
Quote:
”The org. has stopped connecting with us. The on-ice product no longer draws us in. I wonder what things look like on the same track in 2-3 years, if they stay as is?”
Hahaha, what will it look like in 2-3 years? What about the last decade?

Quote:
The only thing that’s going to fix the problem is winning. I get a sense that if the winning doesn’t happen fast, the first to pay the price will be coach Todd McLellan and GM Peter Chiarelli, but it’s also the case that the wrath of the fans will turn on Katz. He is the common denominator of this miserable losing era of Oilers hockey. Of course, no one can fire the owner, and I’m also going to suggest that Katz has taken a number of solid steps to improve the management structure of the team, such as bringing in a businessman in Bob Nicholson to run the show and hiring both an experienced manager and an experience coach.
Oh yeah, been a big success so far.

I was having a chuckle that instead of any real writing in the article, all staples was going to do was repost people’s twitter comments.

He managed to stop me in my tracks though with point 9. He has only been to Rogers Place once since opening and the ticket was a freebie. I’ve been to more games at Rog red Place than Staples!

Sad.

I guess that makes Staples a tier 2 fan.

That one guy is already stuck living and working in Edmonton and decides he wants to work even more just to afford season tickets. Wow, Oilers fans really are gluttons for punishment.

I believe that they got work at the Hyatt working on the HVAC rooftop cleanup crew.

Is this really enough?

I think the expectations, based on distant history, that the only "normal" trajectory for the team is that they finish in first place by at least 20 points over the second place challenger, and completely run the table for multiple playoff successes. Anything resulting in a lesser outcome, which under any sane analysis should be considered a failure, is blithely met with cognitive dissonance.

So what you're saying is that nothing can save the Oilers.

Not even winning.

Nothing.

Sounds about right!

Well to be fair, after being placed in some relatively bleak locations in my career (Iraq, Saudi Arabia), I've learned that sometimes the best way to cope is to just immerse yourself in your work.

But why are you choosing to support the original production forecasts of a homer by suggesting others may be homers for not just nodding in approval at the original homer?

Sure Calgary fans are going to hammer away on an Edmonton radio guy known for seeing only rainbows and puppy dog tails, but many are doing it with logic.

I just don't see why you need to die on this hill.

He had every guy going up, and you don't see the homer in the orginal forecast?

Corsi's tossing out a pretty big strawman in this thread. People are arguing that relying on *all* the rosy predictions is silly, that not everyone will show improvement. Corsi counters that with the challenge to find an individual prediction that seems unreasonable.

He might as well argue that since flipping a coin and getting heads is a reasonable outcome, then flipping it 20 times and getting all heads is also reasonable. Which is rich given his signature.

I think about one more year of terrible hockey, drama, intrigue, Kevin Lowe's comb over fluttering gently in the wind and Mac-T looking stunned on a nightly basis will change the new building from that must see destination in a town without a lot of must see destinations to a mausoleum that smells like slightly moldy hobo urine, that will become a testimony to the old saying, it doesn't matter what kind of box you put it in, poop still stinks.

Remember between 93 and 96 when you could tune into an oilers game and see the ushers frantically shuffling people into the camera shots to make the building look full, how they piped in cheer sounds, except for that one time when they accidentally piped in a cow giving birth sounds and nobody knew the difference? That was all in protests of a bad owner going bankrupt. This time it will be to protest a casting couch using, city blackmailing wheeling dealing Bono wannabe in Darryl Katz.

I would expect that at some point they'll have a special promo this year, buy one ticket get one valium for free.

We could sit here all day and say even "Blank" can't save the Oilers, nobody can. But at this point, I'm convinced that give it another year of their typical insipid hockey and nobody will want to save the Oilers, nobody.

At this point, they should just save the fans some pain, move the team to Seattle and convert that new barn into a multiplex for porn.

I read through this and the funny part to me is that Oilers fans are lamenting the reality that pretty everyone not drinking the kool-aid or wearing a despicably orange blindfold saw coming years ago.

The fact that they tiered their fans, the bump in prices after one decent season despite a decade of abject failure, and the list goes on and on.

Anyone who has been paying any attention whatsoever saw this coming from miles away, but once again Oiler fans only realize these things long after its already done slapping them in the face.

This morning on the Fan an Athletic reporter who nailed a ton of team point total predictions from last year still doesn't like the Oilers.

He's one of the few in the media who didn't pick them to be a playoff team last season and doesn't pick them this season as well.

As far as I'm concerned, he's got more credit that 90% of media types now.
