For guys with young families these European Leagues are a good option. Able to be home a lot because the travel is far less demanding and it's a shorter schedule.

Best of luck Rage Staj. You were a classy Flame and I will always remember the playoff goal.

Also, 13th all time Flame in games played in between Tim Hunter and Miikka Kiprusoff. Not too shabby.

100% true. Matt Stajan and his family is how I ended up becoming a Flames fan. They are the nicest people you will ever meet and what they did behind the scenes for various groups in the city, including the neonatal unit and pregnancy loss, is just without question some of the most selfless and genuinely heartfelt “giving back” you will ever see. This City is worse off without them being here. Beauties. Best of luck!

Anyway, even if he was a "marginal" player, so were a lot of really good coaches.
Meh you can argue about his value on the ice as long as you want. In this context it is irrelevant whether he scored 50 goals a season or 5. The Flames do not need to get in the habit of handing players positions they are not qualified for in the least. Leave that to the bozos to the north who apparently know a thing or two about winning.

Things were done right with guys like Conroy moving up the front office ranks from the minor leagues up. If Stajan wants a position with the team then he should get into coaching at the junior level and approach the team once he's done so to see if there's a fit in the lower levels of the organization as a start.

The suggestion of handing him a glory position when we already have great coaches and support staff doing these things is near lunacy.

An quiet anchor to our bottom 6 for the last 9 years. Always loved his energy and certainly wasn't a player who ever 'checked out' of a hockey game.
Thank you Stajan!

Best of luck in Germany and I hope we have you back in the organization or community at some point!

I like this as Munich is a great city, and he will be playing for my team so I can still cheer for him. I hope he enjoys it - I'm sure the money isn't what he would have made in North America but he did make bank, and I'm sure this will be a great experience for his family.

Who suggested a "glory position". I think skills coach, minor league coach or assistant coach is what people are describing.

So two former Leafs Stajan and John Mitchell aka Johnny Dangles reunite. Cool.

Stajan was pretty solid for the Flames...not his fault the Flames made a bad trade. I always felt bad that he took the brunt of it.

Scoring a Calgary Flames series winning goal is pretty ####ing rare

Him and Marty are the only ones in damn near 30 years
