This move will probably be lost to history given everything else surround the Senators, but what another awful asset management move.

They traded their 2016 mid 2nd round pick, Jonathan Dahlén, for a 35 year old Alex Burrows in February 2017. Almost immediately they sign Burrows to a 2 year, $5 million dollar deal. 16 months later, they are buying it out. I can't think of any other players bought out after just 1 year.

For such a cash strapped team, the Sens are paying $1.625 million for the remnants of Phaneufs farts, $7.5 million for Bobby Ryan, $4.575 million for Gaborik, $5.5 million for Anderson and now $833k for Burrows' buyout next year.

It is absolutely mind boggling how awful there salary management is.

First off, Screw Burrows... scummiest of the scum.

That said, can someone explain the why if this? Apparently being signed over 35, means the Sens receive no cap relief for buying him out.

So, what’s the upside? Freeing up a roster spot?

I mean getting Burrows away from your team entirely is a no brainer. As summed up in previous posts, trading a top prospect for him and subsequently signing him to a 2 year deal never made any sense.

Even though there's no cap relief, it does save them some actual money. Instead of paying him $2.5 million this year, they'll pay $833,333 for each of the next two seasons and save $833,333 overall. At today's exchange rate, that's over $1.1 million Canadian.

For some reason, Dorion thought Burrows was going to be a contributor. I'm not sure what they wanted him to contribute, but there was something.

Besides the little bit of savings, I think they're in a different spot today from where they thought they'd be. They fairly suddenly went from playoff hopeful to (likely) bottom of the league. With what they need to do over the next few years, Burrows won't be needed... for whatever he was brought in for in the first place. I don't get the impression this scum is worth having around through a rebuild.

For a second I thought it said Brouwer instead of Burrows..I was so happy! Then, in a blink of an eye, the happiness was taken from me

There's not enough Vancouver is No Good things to laugh at. The Fan 1040 talked about adding Burrows to the Ring of Honor. Fan base and the commentators all agreed to have him added. Talk about a truly pathetic and sad organization.
