Right, it only looked like he was on it all year.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Jankowski - Foo
Mangiapane - Shore - Lazar
Hathaway
Gio - Hamilton
Kulak - Brodie
Andersson - Hamonic
Stone
Smith
Unlikely but I want a speed upgrade throughout. I want Stone to play a whole lot better too or he could be replaced with a LS.

Peters mentioned how important possession is to him, and that it starts with face offs. A 50/50 puck battle and they should get more than their fair share of them.
I say again, I won't be one bit surprised if they bring in Derek Ryan. Familiarity with the coach, decent depth player, and 55.3% & 56.5% were his face off numbers the last two years. Career 56.1%
I've also been droning on and on about acquiring Ryan O'Reilly to whoever will listen. On top of all the other benefits of ROR, he's a freaking face off wizard. Never once been below 51.8% and the last two years he was 58% and 60%.
Another thing I noticed, is Carolina's centers all range from pretty good to really good in the face off dot.
Lindholm - 54.0%
Staal - 56.6%
Rask - 54.9%
As well as the above mentioned Ryan.
I wonder if Peters has techniques he helps these guys with face offs, or if it's just that he puts such importance on it that they really work at it, and the wingers get really good at helping out in a stale mate draw, things like that...
Either way, I'd expect the Flames to get better at this one way or another.

Makes me wonder about Sam Bennett going back to center. He has good facoff stats I think. It's the rest of his 200ft game that needs sharpening. Namely discipline.
Honestly, even if he stays a winger at least you know you have a good second guy to draw in on faceoffs when a Jankowski gets kicked out.of the circle

The presser makes me a little more confident that he will be willing to change things up if needed. Hopefully it all starts with telling Brouwer he's no longer wearing an 'A' and if he can't deal with that then he should ask for a trade.

Ok, first off Tavares is not coming here that cheap if he would even come here. Second, you have him playing behind Monahan? Really?

That is where you lost me. Would rather keep Bennett for that return.

Bennett may not have lived up to the billing but he's still better than any 2nd or 3rd round pick would return.
Nyquist never lived up to billing in Detroit, will be 29 next year, is a UFA following next season, and is looking like he will max out as a 40 point guy at this point in his career.
Fox for Kapanen isn't that bad but I'd rather move Fox in a package for more of a sure thing if we are going to move him.

That FWD group is intriguing but young. I imagine a UFA or trade is going to knock down some wingers. Foo and Mangiapange won’t both be on the opening day roster unless BT takes the whole summer off.
Also, leaving Stone off the top 6 is not a great permanent use of the asset, but I see why you did it (Brodie to the R). I don’t see a natural fit with the current D that brings in Andersson.
Like most have pointed out, the balance will likely be found in a D for F trade, and a 7th D UFA signing

Man its gonna be funny when you have to get that back tattoo haha.
In the guys line up I doubt hes got JT playing "behind" Monahan its just in that scenario we would basically have two number one lines and he left gaudreau and monahan together because they already have clear chemistry.

Brodie + Pick/Prospect for Nylander + Leivo
Stone for a mid-round pick (2nd or 3rd)
Sign Derek Ryan to a 2 year, $2.5 per season ($5M total) contract.
Buyout Brouwer
Gaudreau - Monahan - Nylander
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Ryan
Mangiapane - Shore - Leivo
Lazar, Hathaway
Giordano - Hamilton
Kulak - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington (Probably want to add depth veteran LH d-man as well)
Team gets younger, faster, and more skilled. Think Valimaki puts pressure on in training camp to make this team, and by game 40 supplants Kulak on the pairing with Hamonic.
Also thing the young bottom end of the d-core may be okay for Peters. In Carolina Hanifin never played in the AHL and came in at 19, Pesce played a total of 7 AHL games and was 20, Slavin had played 14 AHL games and started at 21. All those guys were rookies in the 15/16 season.
For Flames Valimaki would have no AHL time and be 20 yrs old, Andersson will be 22 with 110 AHL games, Kylington will be 21 with 169 AHL games.

The Leafs don't need an offensive d-man, then need a defensive d-man. The Flames don't need a play-making winger, they need a sniper. I just don't see a match between the Flames and the Leafs.

Why buyout Brower if you’re not using the cap for anything?

I tend to agree. My choice would be for the Flames to acquire Perron in free agency, and then look for a good return for one of Brodie or Stone.

Out of curiosity, do you think adding Perron would be enough?

Perron just had a career year at 30 years of age.
Good player, I'd just be careful not to pay him like he's a 60+ point winger, because he likely isn't.

I think it would be close. The roster is not starved of offence—the Flames were a top-ten scoring team only two years ago. David Perron skates really well, distributes the puck well, and he can score. I also think that if the Flames acquire a player like him in UFA it probably affords Treliving some time to find the best deal in exchange for one of his defensemen.

That's true. He is a good player on your second line, and his age does make me a little nervous.
