That's not the point.

The question is did someone equally or more qualified not get a job that s/he could have done just as well for 25 years? Lack of dismissal isn't relevant, nor does it prove much.

Nonetheless, good luck Eric on the next venture.

He was hired as a junior reporter, maybe even a copy runner. The lowest job in the newsroom. Loads of people are hired for those positions because they churn through them like crazy. The attrition rate for new journalists is brutal. The great majority wash out in the first two years. Maybe 1 in 12 journalists who start in the field are still in it 10 years later. It's not like working for the government where once you're in the door you're golden.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with the flames in a role around event experience or season ticket holder relations.

Again, not responsive to the issue of lost opportunity / outcome for the person not hired due to nepotism.

There was a hiring freeze at the Sun after Eric Francis got a job there?

Seems the only fair thing would be for CP to re-interview the candidates for that junior position from 25 years ago and determine if the right person was hired.

Not sure how it's "nepotism" if the supposedly influential relative spent nearly two decades working for the competition, whilst said progeny subsequently advanced in his career though many varied media outlets like radio and TV, whilst maintaining a steady gig in the the newspaper industry.

Francis seemed to relish in the sensationalism of a story over substance.

He's on 960 right now. Not saying what his next step is out of respect for his future employer but says he's staying in Calgary, still writing, and will be quite involved with the Flames.

Seemed to all but say he's going to work for Rogers on TV for the Flames (IMO). Mentioned that the "haters" would be seeing and hearing more from him and he would be covering the Flames.

And to his credit, his mention of the importance of newspapers and reporting was spot on and while I don't always enjoy what he has to say I wholeheartedly agree with him on the importance of knowing where your news is coming from these days.

Well, why did they hire him if they're too embarrassed to announce his hiring?

I'm expecting he will essentially be Calgary's Mark Spector in terms of job description; appearing on broadcasts and writing for Sportsnet.

Well... his lips are practically surgically attached to Ken Kings anus so I guess that shouldn't be a surprise.

I hope it's not Sportsnet.

This is what I think as well. He will write articles for the SN website and be involved in Flames telecast intermissions. Not a huge stretch seeing he was already doing some of the TV but now he will exclusively write for RSN. Maybe they will have him do some CFL coverage as well?

My guess is he will have a much larger presence/show on SN 960 also. Similar to Spector.

I look foward to it.
