lanny Oilers to host Flames in 2023 Heritage Classic at Commonwealth

Surprised we don't have a thread on this yet! It's finally official.

This will be a huge game that will go a long way to sorting out the playoff picture in the pacific division

An Edmonton-based team hasn't won in that stadium in years. Let's keep it that way.

I was at the original one and I think that’s the coldest I’ve been in my entire life
Fun in some ways and a great memory but I’m too old for that #### now

Canada v Mexico in WC qualifier football was played later in the year than this outdoor game!

Looking forward to seeing another Flames jersey.

Absolutely! And every time I see a view from the tv, it looks like you can hardly see the play. I’ll be watching from the comfort of my couch, but I can’t wait to watch!

Prediction.

Even Edmonton won't escape El Niño next October, they'll be skating on water ala the Lake Tahoe game

With no netting around the seats, the jersey tosses could reach epic proportions

October 29th was 10 degrees this year.

I'd like to see an outdoor game, just not in Edmonton.

No word of a lie, as soon as this became a possibility my wife started advising me about the warmest boots to buy.

For what its worth.... When I lived in Edmonton, I worked for a company that had the contract to install all of the 5G antennas in the commonwealth stadium. I did all of the fibre splicing for the project. Those antennas, in some spots, are too close to where the public sits. I would be hesitant to go to any function at the stadium.
Just my 2 cents.

Oh man, the duds usually get 5-6 power plays a game. How many will they get at the Heritage Classic? My guess is 8-10.

Ya, that is what I was thinking as well. Also, by this stage of the season it will be a must win for the greasers. Flames should have opted out.

They're just going to make Calgary play on the PK the whole game.

The McDavid circle jerk is gonna be off the charts during this game. I assume we'll see multiple documentary shorts and in-depth analysis on his every move during each intermission, stoppage in play, and post game.

Kind of curious how the money is split in these event games. Do the Oilers, as the home team, keep any additional revenue generated? I was wondering whether the league takes a chunk, and if the away team gets a cut. While these games are kind of cool for the fans and maybe even the players, I don't think they are the most comfortable conditions to play in.

If the Oilers get all the dough here, I would rather the Flames not be involved. I am actually surprised the Oilers would want the Flames to be part of it. If the Oilers lose, it will spoil the party for them. Not to mention, having more visiting fans attend. Although, I would not be shocked if the Oilers try to limit out of town purchases.
