I’m not, Brit’s often consider their TV shows and humour superior to that of the Americans or anyone actually

At least that is what I have found through purely anecdotal experience

I could see that. Not that Brits consider themselves superior, I cant speak to that, but the British sense of humour is very, very different than the standard Western humour.

Some people dig British humour, other people dont, but this show has a very 'Western' sense of humour so I could see Brits not really digging it.

The other thing too is, we must understand, this show is the cinematic equivalent of Homer using the Stonecutter's sacred text as a bib.

You're talking soccer...to the Brits that is religion.

I can kind of see that, actually. This isn't British humour, it's American humour with the UK as the subject and backdrop of it.

is it because it is about Soccer?

I can say I know many people say that they thought I would love it because of the soccer, Sudeikis and US coaching angle (I am a College football fan) but I don't get the hype of this show.

It should appeal to me but I find it so boring, while my wife who doesn't care about any of those things really loves the show.

I wonder if some Brits don't like the lack of realism. Like if Man City actually lost a chance at the Premiership at home against a mid tier side staring a former player there would have been a riot with the coach blowing up.

I think the soccer element is supposed to be ancillary unless it forwards the narrative.

This pokey little club shouldnt be troubling a Petro-State club like City in the first place, we're just supposed to look past that and focus on the story of the people in the show.

I get where you're coming from though, they vilified West Ham and Man City and thats going to rub a large chunk of people the wrong way. This is one of the dangers of shows like this, personally I think they've done it very well and very tastefully.

But I can separate reality from television...some fans are going to take this personally.

Their portrayal of toxic British soccer fans? Its not too far off the mark...

I was hoping that this show was a hit across the pond and that it could also teach Brits that they don't have to be mobbing savages around football.

It's too bad to hear it's audience it primarily in NA.

I suppose if there was a show about a foreigner with no experience coaching an NHL team in Canada that leans on Canadian stereotypes and falsely represents the culture of the game that it might get old quickly for Canadian viewers.

Out of nowhere she's become a brilliant wise sage. I love it. Hell of a couple of episodes for May.

Yeah this is it. My buddy's British parents who are huge football fans absolutely hate it. Really just can't get past the premise that would never happen.

My prediction for the final episode.

Obviously Ted is going home.
Beard stays in England.
Nate comes back into the fold.
I think those are all give-ins, no points for getting those right.

But...
Ted doesn't even attend the last match, he leaves it up to Nate, Roy, and Beard.
We never find out who wins, cause this show was never about soccer, and Ted doesn't care about wins and losses.

No idea what happens with Rebecca an the green matchbook though.

Maybe.

But I also love Letterkenny which kind of does that...as does Shorsey.

Nah, those two shows are the opposite. That's Canadian writers that have a very keen sense and understanding of rural Canadian culture and mannerisms, along with an excellent understanding of hockey.

It shows and that's why so many people love it.

Nate takes over as head coach imo.
