Flames Ryan Huska named HC. 12:30 PM MT presser

Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today that Ryan Huska has been named head coach. Huska becomes the 24th head coach in the history of the franchise*.

"Following a detailed search process, today we are proud to introduce Ryan Huska as Head Coach of the Calgary Flames," stated General Manager Craig Conroy. "While continuity and familiarity are a benefit, we have witnessed first-hand Ryan's work ethic; he is a clear communicator who builds trust with his players; and he's a critical thinker with a plan.

"Ryan provides 11 seasons of bench experience as a head coach from the WHL and the AHL and over 20 years coaching in total, including knowledge gained as an assistant coach in Calgary for the past five seasons. Ryan has earned this opportunity and we are confident he is the right coach for our team."

Huska has coached in the Flames organization since the 2014-15 season in which he was appointed head coach of the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate in Adirondack. He would go on to coach the Flames top prospects in Stockton before becoming an assistant coach with the Flames in 2018. In four years as an AHL bench boss, Huska posted a 135-118-27 record while fostering the development of several future NHL players including current Flames Rasmus Andersson, Andrew Mangiapane, and Oliver Kylington.
No mention of assistants or associates.

Naming Conny excited me. Naming Huska does not excite me.

Zero read on this. No real opinion.

It's a coaching hire.

I think we should give him a chance. All good coaches need to start somewhere. Maybe he's just what this team needs.

Disappointing and hopefully we are wrong about the guy.

Time to cheer him on and hope he turns things around here.

Really Conroy, Nonis, Pascall et al?

Lame, player-driven hire.

Get ready for just as much complacency, just for completely different reasons.

This guy has no winning experience running the show. Why would he suddenly start at the toughest level of hockey?

Lame.

I no longer think the Flames will be a 105+ point team.

Lets see what the staff looks like. Mitch Love is not coming as a assistant coach.

Excellent rebuild hire, though.

Maybe we'll finally get one!

Good luck to him! Wouldn't have been my choice, but he's had success at the CHL level and developed some good players in the AHL. You never know til someone gets their chance.

You have to think that management has good reasons for going with Huska. Just wait and see, but no point in being negative about it. Huska has been an HC candidate in the past (Detroit), so it's not like this is off the board or anything.

I’m not upset about Huska necessarily but it almost guarantees we’re going to lose Love. Damn

What coaching choice would have been met positively on here? We need a progressive, non hard ass, up and comer, but with a proven track record at the NHL level, with 0 baggage.

This person doesn't exist.
