Default Another Major Earthquake Hits Haiti

Hope it's better than the last one that killed upwards of 250,000 people, but it really doesn't sound good.

A major earthquake struck western Haiti on Saturday morning, likely causing high casualties and widespread disaster, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and sending shock waves across the Caribbean, where people fled their homes for fear they might collapse.

The 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck eight kilometres from the town of Petit-Trou-de-Nippes, about 150 km west of the capital Port-au-Prince, at a depth of 10 km, the USGS said.

That made the earthquake bigger and more shallow than the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Haiti 11 years ago, killing an estimated 250,000 people, flattening buildings and leaving many homeless.

And they are about to get hit from tropical storm Grace, which will make rescue more difficult.

Which could make matters worst, the storm looks like it will hit the mountains in dominican republic, while the winds will diminish high mountains can make an epic rain event on the other side.

The differences of economic and health indicators on that island between Dominican Republic and Haiti are just startling.

Well, Haiti had the audacity to overthrow their slaving colonial masters, which led to centuries of international isolation and massive debt from day one.

Wasn't there some religious elitist who proclaimed that they deserved the curse they have after the last bad Earth Quake?

Company I work for was trying to get involved with some Missionary type work in Haiti after the last one. Ended up doing one building there. The architect was from Spain and his name was Fidel Castrol. I hope it's still standing as none of the Engineers who designed that seemed too concerned about anything on that job either...there's only 6'-4" of headroom at the stairs...who care's it's a building that houses children they won't be that tall and it' better than the other buildings.
