Yup, tax them. And get rid of catholic school boards entirely. Why are we paying for 2 school boards in this province? Why don't other religions get their own? Why do some of my tax dollars go to a school that teaches fantasy as fact?
Personally I'd love to see laws that protected children from being indoctrinated before they have critical thinking skills, but I know that wouldn't fly. No religious attendance until you are 18, then you can make up your own mind.

The catholic boards are built into the deal that created Alberta. Quebec was blocking the creation of new provinces out of the lands purchased from the Hudson Bay Company, until they were guaranteed permanent protections for Catholic education - it's in the Alberta Act that created the province. So like many things that are wrong with Canadian politics, you can blame Quebec for that one.
That said, putting aside the religious aspects CSSD is better run than CBE in basically every other way.
