Default Qualifying Round Exits - predict biggest moves for each team

With this years' odd qualifier round in place, I thought it would be interesting to see who everyone thinks is on their way out given the disappointment with some of these teams. Here are mine:

1) Edmonton - Kassian moved for depth, can't sign RNH, sign Barrie
2) Nashville - Rinne retires and if he doesn't, is dealt
3) Minnesota - can't see any changes - just staying the course
4) Winnipeg - signs Krug
5) Pittsburgh - sign Holtby, deal Hornqvist, Murray and Jarry for defence
6) New York - draft Lafreniere, Lundqvist retires
7) Florida - no major changes until the deadline
8) Toronto - deal Nylander for defence, sign Brodie

I dont see the pens moving Jarry, but id LOVE to see them drop Jack Jonhson, god that man is useless as it gets.

But sign and Trade Murray to the Canes, I dont know if Hornqvist has any value TBH.

Hamonic to Winnipeg just makes a lot of sense.

I don't think the Oilers can move Kassian for depth. He IS depth on any other team. Relatively expensive depth.

They don't have a lot of room to move, but they really need a goalie.

1) Edmonton - RNH has 1 year left, Kassian just signed an inflated extension. Status quo or trade RNH
2) Nashville - Rinne will likely sit as an expensive back-up, status quo.
3) Minnesota - Status quo. Slow rebuild, sell at the deadline.
4) Winnipeg - Hamonic and another defenceman signed.
5) Pittsburgh - Matt Murray traded. They sign Mike Hoffman
6) New York - Status quo.
7) Florida - Surprise everyone and trade Ekblad to cut salary
8) Toronto - Trade Nylander for a pick or two, go into free agency for defence and size

Why do so many people think Lundqvist is retiring with another year left on his deal at $5.5 million salary?

I could see Edmonton moving either RNH or Leon or both.

Edmonton

Small move - Trade Kassian for cap relief (Likelyhood - not, Kassian stock has dropped with his contract and poor play. Edmonton will have to give incentive to move him)

Medium move - Edmonton trades RNH (likelyhood, I think this is likely, though RNH produced in the qualifier, the question has always been around his softness and inability to win battles)

Big time - Edmonton trades Draisaitl (likelyhood - Not great, though this one makes sense to me if you want to rattle the core. Draisaitl isn't a line driver, he's a great complimentary player, but is that where you want to sink 8 million bucks. His value is very high and he could get the Oilers some real help or get them a top pairing Defenseman)

And probably being a better team with a real chance at the playoffs.

Kassian is now an overpaid 4th liner. With his new contract how much value does he have?

Nylander should not be traded. His deal is too good compared to Marners.

Due to all the signing bonuses Marner has already been paid MORE THAN HALF of his contract already.

Perhaps there is a team out there who doesn't mind the high cap hit if they have the space because his actually salary being paid out will be much lower for the rest of his contract.

But I'm guessing they keep Marner for one more year and see if he can turn it around. I think signing this huge contract has put a lot of pressure on himself and he seems to be trying to do too much out there instead of letting it come naturally.

I also feel them trading Kapanen/Johnsson is not worth it. Their cap hits are pretty reasonable so I'm not sure they could get anything worthwhile to be put in their place.

1) Edmonton - Buy out Neal and Koskinen, sign Lehner, miss the playoffs again. Nobody wants your garbage, Edmonton.
2) Nashville - Rinne retires, trade for Nylander
3) Minnesota - ????
4) Winnipeg - Hamonic to the Jets is as close to a sure thing as it gets
5) Pittsburgh - Buy out JJ, sign Vatanen
6) New York - draft Lafreniere, Lundqvist retires. Not that he needs to, but maybe doesn't like the idea of playing 2nd or 3rd fiddle to the other two guys
7) Florida - Nothing major besides finding a new GM
8) Toronto - sign Brodie and Tanev, trade Nylander for picks and prospects

If Toronto signs Brodie and Tanev, they'll need to trade Marner for picks

I don't want the Leafs signing any old Dmen. They re-signed Muzzin if they are getting a new Dman it better be in a trade where they are getting back a similar aged player in return.

Exactly. So not happening. This team is in win now mode not trading great young players for picks.

Leafs have Muzzin, Rielly, Sandin, Lillergen, Holl signed for next year. They need to re-sign Dermott who is an RFA.

So they really only need a mid-tier dman signed. It's not a great defense but it can get it done.

Not having Muzzin in the playoffs REALLY hurt the Leafs. He brings everything they need.

I could see Lundqvist “retiring” and offered a front office role to recoup the lost salary and get his cap off the books.

I don't see how Kassian can be moved for depth when he has significant negative value.

The Oilers will look for an upgrade in net (Lehner?) and they will try to get better at D.
Can't see Krug signing with Winnipeg, but Hammer will.
Pittsburgh will surely keep Jarry, but they'll trade Murray.
Rangers will have to trade one of their 3 goalies. (we'll take Giorgiev off thier hands)

Kassian isn’t going anywhere. Everyone knows he’s a fourth liner playing with McDavid, and will be overpaid on his new deal. Meanwhile, the Oil will keep him just to try and get an edge in the BoA (spoiler: it won’t work).

There is no way Kassian is not considered a bad deal. That term is too long and the value too high. He is coming off a dud of a playoff series too, where players of his type can often do well. He was invisible. There is no way a team would take him without a sweetener being involved.
