Yup, that is the best contract Lazar could agree too. Having the minimum NHL salary could give him a chance if they are very tight to the cap.

I still love Lazar, if we could keep him for another year or 2 as an AHL tweener/NHL depth guy I'd be happy. Taking a lower NHL salary for a higher AHL one seems smart for both sides. The 750/200 2 way deal like someone mentioned

He isnt an NHL player, but he may very well be a great AHL player and a good guy...nothing wrong with prospects being around those kind of guys.

Exactly.
And we will see longer term now what his attitude is. He smiled and seemingly went out the way to say all the right things to the cameras and reporters last year, and that certainly gained some empathy amongst said media and fans, and that positive attitude also got the call up for two weeks.
If he thinks he’s still a potential NHL player, all but certain it’s not going to come with the Flames outside of some unusual circumstances of injury.
