Without context in why they want those asks, and what the city may be asking for in return, don't have much of an opinion on those requests except for the CMLC one. Unless CSEC is going to become the owner of the arena rather than the city, that is a request that I balk at. CMLC should be the project manager to ensure this is best for the district as a whole. Unless for some reason they are being completely unreasonable for the operational aspect of the venue itself for the Flames.

It almost looks like they through 5 random things they wanted in demands, but maybe they really only are interested in one of those.

Maybe the CSEC got the final contract and saw the city was paying CMLC $70M and weren't happy. Knowing cost inflation by management companies in government spending it wouldn't be a big surprise.

You know, allowing people to get drunk at the library for $13.25 a beer is a great way to recoup some tax dollars...

I believe in the Jays.

Three of those are complete non-starters (and they'll have to give up something to get the other one). Like just a flat "no"... not up for debate, not negotiable, Don't bother asking again.

I have no idea how CMLC charges, but they are a wholly owned subsidiary of the city.

This being a flames centric forum does anyone have any insight as to why the flames would be asking for more at this stage when a deal already appeared to be done?
Isn't there a huge risk to the flames that the city will seek some kind of out given the economic downturn if they hesitate or start asking for more now?
On face value it doesn't seem very smart, from an optics or strategic perspective but I am a totally laypers on these kinds of projects. Take the money already on the table and run!!

Never claimed Regina is world class. Simply made an observation that they are at least trying to better their city and move towards becoming more “world class.” I hate the term world class by the way as there are so many metrics to judge a city. Regardless, they are providing amenities to attract and/or keep people in the city. Calgary is doing everything to push people away.

They only want $70M? Pffft, pocket change, give it to them. At least we'd still end up with something. The UCP gave away $1.3 billion more than that and got nothing in return to show for it.

Of course the Flames want CMLC removed as project managers - they're probably not used to people actually saying no to their demands. It would be a big mistake to remove them from the project.

In a perfect world there would be no public funds involved but that kind of deal is not practical here.

If by not practical you mean billionaire ownership group would much rather the public pay for their toy that allows them to bring in much more revenue then them pay for it themselves, then you're correct, I guess.

Are you singling our our ownership group? So the model that’s been in place for other teams/cities should not apply to our owners because why?

What does "control over traffic around the new rink" mean exactly? How does that benefit the Flames? Are they looking for the ability to shut down surrounding roads for outdoor game day events or something like that?
